    Obafemi - with first team
    Parrott - possible
    Connolly - with first team
Okoflex - with first team / possibly undecided
    Idah - with first team
    Afolabi - IN
    Reghba - ?
    Ferry - presumably IN
    McAuley ?
    Cassidy ?
    Kavanagh ?
    Ebosele ?
    Wright ?
    McEneff - injured
    Kayode - first team
    Flynn - injured
    Lotefa - passport issue

You could almost look at the original strength in centre midfield and ask the same questions...

    Connell - with first team
    Coventry - ?
    Bolger - ?
    Smallbone - with first team
    Knight - TBC

A genuine shame that you might only have 2-3 of the best 11 starting for them
Jesus, when you look at it that way, it almost seems wrong or injust.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!

I'd be really irked if I were Mohan and these lads don't get plenty pre-season game time. The young lads themselves probably won't get irked until they are back playing 18s or 23s football come August.

Ultimately, Connell and Okoflex both were left out of the squad for the Celtic game against FK Sarajevo. Combines being a little worrying with being a total waste...

Can't find a direct link from Sky Sports on this. He wasn't in our squad for the under 17 Euros but did appear in March. From watching a couple of games at the tournament, not sure how Sean Kennedy or Ronan McKinley could be much better, unless he was injured.

Yeah with parrott out of the 17s it left carty as the only number 9 very strange he wasn't included has scored alot at 16s for utd and had a few 18s appearances . Sotona the other Irish lad who also wasn't picked did accept a contract at utd

Yet Charlie McCann did go so hardly a club issue.

Definitely not a club issue as you say. Clearly neither were considered good enough and carty was considered the superior option to odubeko as the main striker. The motivation for him should be obafemi who couldn't make the under 17s squad for their finals but 6 months later played in the premier league

I understand that we're disappointed about the players who have been held back by their clubs, particularly up front, but that's still a very decent set of attackers

Stephen Kenny was on Eamon Dunphy podcast. Spoke excellently as usual.

Stated that Jonathan Afolabi had signed for Leicester. Not sure if he's confusing him with Ali Reghba or if Afolabi has also signed for Leicester.

Most likely getting mixed up but could be wrong. He was adamant at the weekend that nothing was set in stone and from the tone it sounded like it was more likely to be a championship / league 1 side where there was a more obvious route to the first team

I know this is the wrong section. But it's hard to believe a 14 year old played for bohs against Chelsea last night. That must be a record? ( Evan Ferguson)

Yes, son of Barry Ferguson, who played for Ireland in the 1999 Under 20 World Cup.

With the number of injuries and first team callups etc etc etc, he has a chance of making this squad yet

    Some amount of absentees

    Parrott
    Obafemi
    Connolly
    Collins
    Coventry
    Idah
    Connell
    Knight
    Cassidy
    O'Reilly
    Bolger
    Smallbone

If we can do anything at this tournament with those 12 missing we must have some depth of talent coming through.

O'Connor will surely play in defence?
Obviously the missing players are disappointing, but it's still a strong squad, and you'd expect them to get out of the group

The only positive I have about that 12 is that you couldn't make a starting 11 out of it. Aside from Collins, they are all midfielders and strikers that are being involved with their senior side. That's very impressive given the dearth of options we have had, particularly up front. Depending on who Afolabi has lined up to join (i.e. if it were Millwall) he could have been sought for pre-season too.

Another point to note is that 9 of the 12 were born in Ireland. Connell, Coventry and Smallbone were not. And I'm almost sure the latter pair were born to Irish mothers. Bodes well for the domestic production line.
