That's a tough one . It would be either Buttevant B or Knockraha B for me

Think something has to be done about games being called off every year its the same some teams haven't kicked a ball since the start of December very hard to keep fellas interested when they know the game is going to be off.
I think something like a sports centre would be a good idea have a couple of sand based pitches and a full astro or the aul invest in a full astro rent it out money from tht would pay for it
Just an opinion but sure no doubt will be slated

I've been thinking the same thing for a while.
Start with an Astro and 1 sand based pitch and go from there.
They would be intitled to a lot of grant money also.
The Kerry league have an Astro and this keeps things over through the winter.
A big question is where would you build it to give access to all clubs.

The future SHOULD be geared towards Astro and sand based pitches for all teams/clubs eventually. I watch alot of games on astro pitches both full size and small sided games and the standard of football on view is improving all the time, the older players (early 20's onwards) are becoming more skillful and the younger guys (12's up) have some incredible skills and confidence and attempt to do things that I would never have dreamed of all those years ago. It is my opinion that if we had level playing pitches and a bit of nice weather then our game would improve in leaps and bounds. A lot of financial investment for sure but it would all pay off in the long term. If we compare your local soccer pitch with that of your local GAA pitch you can be assured in most cases that the playing surface of the GAA pitch is far superior and they dont use it for anything but running on as their games are for the most part played in the air. In Cork surely local farming communities could be persuaded to prepare SOCCER fields to a GAA standard at a fraction of the cost of what a sports field contractor charges. They already have all the equipment and the know how. Any thoughts?

But with mayfield utd and mayfield community & blarney etc all having astro pitches the aul could sort some deal with those in charge to get some games going.. or indeed summer football is also an option but again unlikely ..
    what’s yer thoughts lads ??
Summer football the way to go . The AUL don't have the money to buy land and build an Astro.

Money shouldn't be an issue here grants readily available and with some FAI backing.
Rural Gaa clubs can build an Astro on there own
Once up and running it would easyily pay for itself.
The biggest problem would be location as it should be accessible to all but it would require a site that would facilitate expansion to further sand based pitches make it are real home for amateur soccer in cork.

Early days there would be a lot of work but if planned properly could be be beneficial for years to come.

Yes but the FAI would have to fund this not the AUL . Isnt this being done or planned somewhere near Glanmire/Carrigtwohill?

I would think it would be funded by the FAI and run by the AUL if it was to ever happen.
Also funding would come via the sports capital grant

I've never heard of the project you mentioned for east cork who is this supposed to for?

Ya Jake is right there's land bought down glanmire remember it being on the echo but i think it's fai alright and cork city are involved as well surely the Aul will have to be involved with it as well as of summer football will never happen as the country clubs will never vote for it as it would definitely put there existence in jeopardy due to the GAA

There are more city teams than country teams in the AUL now? So maybe they would be outvoted?

Ithink the city/ Country team spilt is about 50/50.
I don't feel the impact would be as big with the gaa as before .
the gaa season runs nearly 9 months for any reasonably successful team.
The months of June and July are very quiet for gaa players due to inter county players.
If they really felt gaa championship would impact there is surely away around it.
Allow the moving of a game to a few days after long evenings could facilitate this.

The move to summer would also shorten the AUL season as there would be no 10 week break due to bad weather, longer evenings allowing more opportunities to play games.

It's happening at school boy level in the next two years this will be a good bench mark as to how easy the transition could be.

You are right it is almost a 50/50 split just had a quick look at the tables. Must admit that surprised me .
