Here's the inspirational speech by Pacino in Any Given Sunday.

Stone does a good job conveying the intensity and depth sport offers and the fact that a game is more than just a game.
Best : Any Given Sunday
Worst : Escape to Victory (obviously)
Recommended : Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait and The Arsenal Stadium Mystery
'Remember the Titans' is some film....
'There's only one Jimmy Grimble' isn't bad either...
Hoop Dreams
My 4 year old also makes me watch High School Musical with the true to life state B Ball final that gets stopped with a couple of minutes to go so Zac can sing with Vanessa at the audation for the school play which was brought forward by Miss Darvis to clash with the game (and the brain competiton which Vanissa was in which was stopped at the same time by a bad chemical leak) which they both just missed but sang anyway to everyone who had left the game and got the part and went back and won the brain competition as well as Zac scoring the winning basket in the last second to win the game. I dont really like it
Next week we will go through high school musical 2 where Ryan would rather dance than play baseball (or so I'm told)

A recent Guardian article on the six worst sports films, which I suspect includes a lot of peoples' favourites.
A man can have no greater love than give 90 minutes for his friends.
Fever Pitch - even if it does show Arsenal beating Liverpool!
Escape to Victory.

Saw this in Chartbusters on Ranelagh once but my girlfriend wouldn't let me get it. Looks quality. It's even got Rick Moranis in it...
cool runnings, blades of glory, the mighty ducks
illiteracy and alphabet soup hmm?
I liked that German film that was on rte last week, "The Miracle of Bern" I think it's called.

Blue Chips, Varsity Blues, Fever Pitch, Raging Bull.
I think I should the parachute, because I'm great.
In fact, I think I should get both parachutes, in case one doesn't work.
I didn't think of it the first time I saw this thread but Kingpin is also a great sport-related film.

When we were Kings
Have to say I've a childhood sentimental liking of Escape to Victory. The plot is preposterous but I remember being so proud that Kevin O'Callaghan featured in the movie and was gutted for him that he broke his leg
Sylvestor Stallone in goal, the Ardiles flick and the Pele overhead kick at the end. What more do ye want!!!!![]()
Quoting years at random since 1975
Gladiator (they were sporting heroes in Roman days)
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
Raging Bull
Cool Runnings - good call Thomo!
Rocky - the one with Dolph Lungren "If he dies, he dies"
"If God had meant football to be played in the air, he'd have put grass in the sky." Brian Clough.
You'll NEVER beat the Irish.......you'll just draw with us instead!!!
