There's a word for misheard lyrics, which as far as I remember comes from an actual misheard lyric.
Hang on a sec...
Is there a song for years you were convinced that the lyrics were what you thought? I always thought the chorus to Toto's 'Rain in Africa' went
'I guess it rains down in Africa'
it's 'I bless the rains down in Africa'. Any examples?
'Fascists dress in black and go round telling people what to do, where as priests.....'

'scuse me while I kiss this guy
![]()
" I wish to God that someone would be able to block out the voices in my head for five minutes, the voices that scream, over and over again: "Why do they come to me to die?"
Ah, it's a 'Mondegreen.'
My favourite is the Jimi Hendrix 'scuse me while I kiss this guy,' lyrics.

The real lyrics were:
Sunday Bloody Sunday
But I misheard them as:
Some day buddy, some dayThe real lyrics were:
The answer, my friend,
is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
But I misheard them as:
The ants are my friends,
they're blowin' in the wind
The ants are a-blowin' in the windThe real lyrics were:
Here we are now, entertain us
But I misheard them as:
Here we are now in containersThe real lyrics were:
Heathcliff!
It's me, Cathy and I've come home
oh, so cold, let me in-a your window
But I misheard them as:
Eeee-wheee!
It's me; I'm a tree, I'm a wombat.
Oh, so cold at the end of your winter

Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer
I thought for a while the first line was 'Tommy used to work on the DART'!
'Fascists dress in black and go round telling people what to do, where as priests.....'
Amy Winehouse - Valerie,
I always though she was saying that-a-way, obviously this was before I knew the song was called Valerie.
Aeorsmith - Love in an Elevator,
I thought that was Livin' la vie da layda.
I'm terrible at lyrics in general to be honest.

A patriot is someone who knows how to hate his country properly.
Abra, Abracadabra
I met a brazzer from Cabra.
Not me but one of the girls was forever singing "Take me to the parking lot" when it should have been "Take me to the clouds above"...yeah she is still getting slagged about it
Ever get the feelin' you have been cheated?
Sorry, didn't mean to lock this.
Thank God I didn't start that 'What dumbass locked the Misheard Lyrics' thread in support. Could have opened a whole new can of worms. Now where's my tin hat.
Anyway, to keep it on topic, to my bemusement I discovered a few years ago that a group of female friends thought the Weather Girls sang' It's a rainy day, hallelujah', which kind of completely misses the point of the song.

You soon set them straight though![]()
Message in a bottle...
'A year has passed since I wrote my note'
Misheard as...
'A year has passed since I broke my nose'
Did you ever notice that in every painting of Adam & Eve, they have belly buttons. Think about that...take as long as you want.
that song No One by Alicia Keys.
For ages I didnt know who it was, and thought she was singing 'Go On, Go On, Go On'
oh and Celine Dion.......
'I believe that the hot dogs go on and on...'
and Shakira, that line from 'Underneath your Clothes'
'Lamps are hanging from the ceiling' sounds like 'snots are hanging from the ceiling'![]()

The Stranglers - Golden Brown. For ages thought the lyrics went "Lays me down with my mancheerons." Spent a long time wondering WTF a mancheeron was before I copped on it was "with my mind she runs"![]()
