It is very clear that the rule is for the coming season so that teams starting out will know what will be happening at the end of the 2012/2013 season.
My opinion would be that the team that comes 2nd should always go up. Fair enough there is a long history of teams like rosegreen, nicholas, galbally etc of struggling in premier but one up devalues finishing the season out for most clubs. At the very least should be a play off between 2nd from bottom in the premier and team that comes 2nd in division 1
if it wasnt for birds and booze id have played for ireland juniors!!!!!

Exactly !! Perfect solution , The 1st division is highly competitive and in my opinion it would be a disaster for a team to go through the whole season playing very tough games week in week out and to finish 2nd and get nothing for it. At the very least they should get a playoff as Balls suggested , so at least the team that finishes 2nd bottom in premier are not quiet safe and still have work to do to save their status in the premier and the team that just misses out on The 1st division title can still go for promotion . It would be an exciting addition to the TSDL fixture list.

what will happen is you will have the premier team that has spent all season being beaten and has more than likely not played for 2 months, playing the 2nd in Div 1 who as most Div 1 teams have said do not want to go up if not winners, You will have a game that no one wants to win!!!

Very well said. This viewpoint has probably mooted the rule change. While the 1st division is competitive I am aware of quite a few teams in it who are quite happy to stay there - they don't want to know about the Premier division. Probably not the right attitude to have but no team wants to be hammered each week no matter what the division. Fact is there are not 9 teams in the TSDL good enough for the Premier division. I think the rule change is a good one but doubt it will get two-thirds majority. Democracy dictates clubs in the second, third and fourth divisions could have the major say, many of whom probably couldn't care less as they are not affected. The rule change will be put as is - no amendment can be proposed on the night. It is either carried or not.

Having been to many League AGM's I think it the Rule will be passed, the lower leagues will just go with what ever Lewis comes up with 9 times out of 10. It will be interesting to see if the Oscar Traynor mess is made much of on the night!!

how are Town paying for this? big gamble.

if every 2nd gaa and rugby club up and down the country can afford to pay coaches 2 and 3 nights of the week, surely tipperary's biggest and most successfull soccer club can afford a top fitness coach for a few weeks pre season training. Dont see that as a big gamble complexman?

GAA clubs are helped out with funding from central council, Soccer clubs end up giving over more money than they will ever get in fines and registration fee's. At last year's AGM the TSDL had over €250,000 in the Bank, I wonder how much that has increased by at this years AGM.

I agree with most of what you say but at the end of the day he is a fitness coach, I am just concerned that money is scarce and whatever is available could not should be spent elsewhere. I have no idea who this guy is, he sounds excellent. I just hope Town aren't biting off more than they can chew, thats all

The one up and 1 down was knocked on the head tonight , Tom lewis was in favour but it never came close to been voted in , As for the Promotion/Relegation playoff , it was suggested but deemed too expensve by Tom Lewis as it was extra game with 3 Officials and neutral ground needed so i suppose its as you were , 2 up and 2 down for the time been.

tommy was correct with his points the team that goes up second invariably struggles year in year out, but we are all dreamers who want to see our team play premier so the vote was never going to get past the smaller clubs i.e division 1-4 clubs who have the majority in their favour for these type of decisions. another vote to increase the 5 game rule to 7 games where clubs with a and b teams, a players could play 7 games before being ineligable for being able to play B team football was also voted out in similar fashion.

Very impressed with tsdl giving the €1000 to all clubs who have youth teams. credit where its due.

Again i think the 7 game rule was never gonna get past the smaller clubs because the 5 game rule has been a big problem for them for years , Where in the 1st few weeks of season a Weak "B" side in the 3rd or 4th divisions turn up on a Sunday with "A" players. Also must agree with the grants for youths teams... Its fair to say the T.S.D.L are almost paying for the teams to have youths sides , Nice gesture and as you said Balls , credit where credits due !!

tipperarys 'biggest' and 'most successful' soccer club????? alot of people at saint michaels will disagree with you on that statement balls considering saint michaels are the only tsdl club to win every honour at youth and junior level locally and nationally, have won more munster junior cups 6 compared to 3, and have contested 5 fai junior cup finals in their history compared to 1.

Clonmel Town have won more Leagues and Cups domestically so he is correct in calling them "Tipperarys" biggest and most successful club

Haven't heard much about the agm but it appears to have gone off okay. I was correct on the rule change- couldn't see it carried. Was there any reference to the Oscar Traynor? At the end of the day there is little interest in this competition. The money regarding youth teams to be commended. Pity so few youth teams. Clonmel has a population of 17,000-18,000, yet just one youth team playing competitive soccer in the town. No youth team in Cashel. Pity the TSDL is again left to the same 5 people to run it. League Secretary there now for 35 years and no sign of a successor. Time now to put up the feet and watch the Euro championships.
