It was lovely to see him skin people again and drawing fouls and just generally being a dependable outlet. His best work was on the right too - reminiscent of the second half masterclass in Suwon.
ya all the doubters will be quiet now, was great to see duffer winning and skinning players.

That's kind of my point, the pressure is off now and he can just concentrate on his football..... the first time in a long time for him. If he stays at Newcastle, where he is settled (in terms of his career) and is playing for a winning team in a league where he would stand out, surely its a great oppertunity to find his form again?
Maybe this is just wishfull thinking.
You have a weak base to your point, Oink.
He doesn't strike me as a confidence player, as in fragile when things don't work and he has enough guile in his general play to have a positive influence on the overall play of the team.
The biggest barrier to his game have been the recurring injuries along with the usual sharpness and fitness issues that follow. Secondary issues are playing out of position for a crap club.
For us, when he plays, he looks normal enough to me.
The whole squad has been transfer listed
It'll be interesting to see where Duff may end up.
Did you ever notice that in every painting of Adam & Eve, they have belly buttons. Think about that...take as long as you want.
I think the biggest factor will be wages.. There's not many teams that wouldn't be improved by his presence.
Those that can afford his wages will be reluctant given his recent fitness issues.
Quoting years at random since 1975
As dr.peepee mentioned, I can't see anyone outside the teams getting promoted to the premiership being willing to take a chance on him. His age, wages, recent form and history of injuries would keep him off most lists as a potential signing.
Wolves or maybe back to Blackburn would be my bet, neither of them would match his salary though so unless Newcastle do what Leeds did I wouldn't be surprised to see him sit out the remaining 2 years on his deal.
As an afterthough, didn't Hodgson have him at Blackburn, maybe Fulham as an option?
Fulham would be a good option, and would bring him back to London....

Herald reported McCarthy interested at Wolves last night, think Newcastle would have to subsidise the wages though....
http://www.herald.ie/sport/soccer/mc...f-1766899.html
MICK McCarthy will ask the Wolves board to sanction a move for Ireland star Damien Duff after the winger was put up for sale along with the entire Newcastle United squad.
Duff is set for the third move of his career as relegated Newcastle are cutting costs by offloading their squad. The playing panel - and the entire club - have been put up for sale by owner Mike Ashley.
Ashley is trying to raise a £40m cash injection but even if that money can be found, Newcastle players will still have to be sold, and that could force United to take a serious loss on Duff, a player who cost them £5m from Chelsea three years ago.
Burnley boss Owen Coyle is a fan of Duff and he could try to persuade the Dubliner to link up with the Clarets ahead of their Premier League campaign, while Duff has also expressed his desire to play on the continent at some stage.
Positive words from Giovanni Trapattoni could alert Serie A sides to the talents of a player who won two Premier League titles with Chelsea.
But Wolves would be favourites to land Duff's signature as the player still has a close relationship with McCarthy from their Ireland days, and McCarthy would be willing to spend money on a player who has Premier League and international experience.
Hard to believe that one of our best players will be playing in the english first division next season?
i'd be dissapointed if he moved to a team like wolves/burnley, but it be better than staying with newcastle.![]()
I don't think he'd make it into the Wolves or Burley team, so he's probably better off at Newcastle. Playing every week and on huge wages v The bench and wages halved.

Duff scored the first goal for Newcastle today in their 7-2 win over Darlington.
