Some members stated that the club was being put in financial danger as its wage bill equals 95% of income!!!
If the members admit this themselves how come the league authorities can impose sanctions to uphold the salary cap????

SOCCER: The fate of Cork City hangs in the balance this morning after the debt-ridden club admitted they face big decisions about their long-term future, WRITES DANIEL McDONNELL.
It is understood that Cork have accumulated debts of about €800,000, and owners Arkaga are seriously considering their involvement with the club.
Cork City are thought to be considering the possibility of applying for examinership through the High Court. Entering receivership or even going into liquidation was also mooted by Leeside sources yesterday.
FAI authorities have contacted Arkaga regarding "a written undertaking made by one of its companies to guarantee all liabilities arising from Cork City Investment FC Ltd for a 12-month period from January 29, 2008 through to January 29, 2009".

On to Cork City. When Arkaga came on board, they promised to write off €1m every year and to build a new stadium. Now if you believe the figures, we are currently €800k in debt and Arkaga are not paying up. It p!sses me off, but it is not a similar situation to Sligo.
Nowhere in this thread did I take pleasure in Sligo's situation. I simply pointed out the stupidity of your chariman. In a similar way, you could go on about us being stabbed in the back by our owners.
We are both in trouble, which is sad. But instead of point scoring, try not to lose sight of the fact of who's fault it is. The sligo board and Arkaga. It is not the fault of Summer soccer, or the AIL not going ahead.
In the case of Sligo Rovers, summer soccer is about 75% of the reason. It is not for no reason that part of the Platinum proposal is an immediate return to winter soccer.
Going by the above I would have to say that your chairman is a flippin idiot if he didn't think this situation may materialize.

I'll not try and hazard a guess as to how much it will cost City to operate this season. Whatever the cost may be I can gurantee you that they didn't have the money at the start of the season so in order for them to operate they had to 'spend money they didn't have'. I presume that meets your criteria as being idiots?
No club in the Eircom League or any league for that matter starts out the season with the required funds to get them through the season. Football is a gamble both on and off the pitch. When a team is successful on the pitch everything is rosy. Attendances are up, sponsorship is up, everyone wants to be involved. Very few teams starting out a season can be sure of success, not even Cork City!
For you to call someone an idiot because he or she shows as much passion for their club as you obviously have for yours is totally unfair. At our club not many people can claim to be as passionate as our chairman. The man may have his faults but hey who doesn't. Every club has a chairman who shows an equal passion for their club. Every club finds themselves looking at a negative balance sheet each week. Some clubs like Cork City have sugerdaddys that bale the club out each week. The clubs that don't have the sugerdaddy have to operate on a much tighter budget and the fact that they stay in business at all proves that they must be doing something right. Certainly doesn't imply that they are headed up by idiots now does it?
Your problem is that the board of Cork City got into bed with Arkaga and one partner didn't perform. You're p1ssed off because of this. You look around the league and see all other clubs have their problems too. A club like ours that try and do everything above board and operate as a complete football club run by the community is an easy target for you. You'd have no comprehension of what's it's like to be involved with such a football club. You are looking in from the outside not only at our club but your own. You have absolutely no say in who the next (if there is one) bed partner your board will decide on and I suppose if I'm honest that would p1ss me off too. But because you find yourself on the outside looking in doesn't give you any right to look beyond your own prediciment and start bad mouthing other people. Concentrate on your own problems and hopefully things will work out for City as I've a soft spot for your club. It's people like you that gives clubs a bad name.

good point, thats what worries me. Thats why if Tony McGee's proposal went ahead, the fact that we would be run by businessmen, whom, must surely know, running SRFC, theyre not gonna get much of a profit back(even though we'd probably know who these businessmen were). As red away said CCFC seems to be run by faceless directors, dont know if id feel to good about that.
