Sports Stadium only got interesting when they started having live Premiership on a Saturday afternoon. I was brought up and reared on Grandstand. David Coleman and Frank Bough were the earliest presenters I remember. The boat race, the Grand National, Wimbledon, Test Matches, rugby internationals - it had it all and of course the teleprinter for the soccer results
Followed shortly by "The Monkees"  & Dr Who:DQuote:

So farewell then..... Aaron Spelling. Charlie's Angels was one of his shows. Farah Fawcett was my favourite of the three.
Pity he had to engage in nepotism and get his ugly daughter a lead part in one of his shows (Beverly Hills 909 or something like that).
So farewell then Freddie Trueman, one of the greatest fast bowlers to play cricket.
Vere Wynne-Jones after a long illness.
Farewell Steve Irwin, Aussie croc-hunter and TV personality/general madman..

Paul Hunter- Snooker Star .
Very Young man (27) taken way before his time.
Don't know why in particular, but I was really knocked back reading that today, since I never met him or was particularly a fan. Maybe it's that there've been a couple of pieces on the Beeb in recent times touching on his battle with cancer and giving out really positive vibes about his recovery, then it came to nought.
A similar thing happened with Bob Monkhouse that time. And Paul Eddington. Just made it more of a shock than it might have been otherwise I suppose.
So farewell then... Jack Palance, the film actor. Not sure if he ever got a lead roll but he played the baddie very well. I remember him in SHANE as smiling gunfighter clad in black who contrasted with the whiter than white Alan Ladd as Shane.
Desert Orchid
