From tonight's EFL Trophy:
Conor Coventry kept his recent goalscoring run going for West Ham in their 1-0 win over Colchester: https://www.skysports.com/football/c...ted-u21/428759
Charlie McCann played for Man Utd against Rochdale and scored his penalty in their shoot-out win: https://www.skysports.com/football/r...21/live/428774
Mark McGuinness not quite ready to start for Ipswich, as he played against them for Arsenal U21s. Jordan McEneff played the first 45 minutes and Mazeed Ogungbo was on the bench, while Corrie Ndaba lined out for the Trotters: https://www.skysports.com/football/i...1/teams/428733
Will Ferry played for Southampton U21s against Stevenage, while Thomas O'Connor came on as a sub: https://www.skysports.com/football/s...1/teams/428749
George Nunn played for Chelsea U21s against Walsall: https://www.skysports.com/football/w...1/teams/428783
Coventry's goal was a belter.
Sotona signed for nice https://www.the42.ie/ayodeji-sotona-...19211-Sep2020/ .he seemed to do really well when moved to centre forward for utd 18s last season . be interesting to see if he stays centre forward or goes back wide . Best of luck to him would have been easy to take the deal at utd and stay put
Still quite a few players that I'd like to see go out on loan before the window closes -
Josh Cullen and Conor Coventry - still not getting a sniff at West Ham, Cullen just needs a permanent transfer to be honest
Mark Travers and Gavin Kilkenny - neither look like they will be first choice at Bournemouth, Kilkenny in particular is struggling for game time there and Bournemouth have just signed another attacking midfielder
Will Ferry - no longer in the Southampton first team squad it seems
Luca Connell - will be set for a year and a half without any first team football if he doesn't get a loan move from Celtic. Barry Coffey also needs to move to play first team football if he's to have any chance of developing
Joe Hodge - would be good to see him get some first team football down the leagues, he has turned 18 now
Adam O'Reilly - had a good non league loan last year, needs to play at a higher standard now but not getting much of a chance at Preston
Caoimhin Kelleher - looks like he won't get a loan as Liverpool are down to three senior keepers. He's 22 next month, sooner or later you have to get out of your comfort zone and go and play some football.
Hopefully most of those 10 can get something sorted out in the next few days.
Not since the u15 squad in 2017: https://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/dono...dutch-fixtures
none that I'm aware of. a few Nigerian football sites noted that he's Nigerian qualified when they reported on Nice signing him.

Is this guy well known on this forum?
I've never heard of him
yep, the move was briefly discussed here - https://foot.ie/threads/259632-U23-P...=1#post2050875
Has he sailed in to the Sunset re; Ireland ?
Not the best start to the weekend for Gavin Kilkenny. Left out of the Ireland under 21 squad and then Bournemouth go with 6 subs on the bench rather than including him tonight v Coventry.
I know managers have reasons for picking fewer subs than they are allowed but that must be very frustrating for a player trying to break in to the first team.
17 year old Kian Leavy from Ardee started for Reading U23 today against West Brom,
Well, he’s never been publicly called up and turned it down. But regarding the U17s that were here, it was very surprising that neither Mipo nor him were named in the squad for that tournament, when there were clearly better than 2-3 of the people who were included who can play similar positions. Couldn’t have been an issue with the club, as McCann was in the squad. Gaxha (eligible for Albania I think) was possibly in the same boat. Okoflex was also documented at the same time. And Mazeed Ogbungo (spelling?) would have been in the same boat but he and Okoflex have subsequently played for the 19s.
It’s logical to think that either a) there were mistakes made in the selection or b) the players indicated they didn’t want to be called up
Some mitigating factors though:
1) that 2002 class were hosts and therefore that was the only competitive squad of the year, instead of 3 competitive squads to make like the previous year would have had.
2) the 2001/02 U19 class were knocked out in the first round, meaning the same thing.
3) the 2002/03 U19 class hasn’t played competitive games due to Covid.
So it basically means there were only two squads which he could have been capped in. I think there’s far more players currently who we have doubts about from that age group because of those factors.
Historically, I don’t think we’ve lost any Nigerian-Irish footballers either from two parent or one parent Nigerian backgrounds, which is probably a positive on a few different levels. But the fact that Mipo, Sotona and Obi (Derby) have never played for us at age groups that matter isn’t ideal.
Obafemi is obviously different because he went out of his way to ensure he was capped and all he’s really done is write one ill advised tweet.
Darragh O'Connor scored Leicester's goal in a 2-1 defeat to Derby; Shane Flynn was sent off and Ali Reghba also played, while Festy Ebosele and Ola Ibrahim lined out for Derby: https://www.google.com/search?q=prem...9802;ln;fp;1;;
Yet another goal for Conor Coventry, this time a penalty in West Ham's 3-2 defeat to a Brighton side that had James Furlong in their line-up: https://www.google.com/search?q=prem...9802;ln;fp;1;;
Tyreik Wright scored the only goal as Villa beat Palace - Kian Flanagan came on as a sub so maybe there's hope for him yet: https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C...t2j8;ln;fp;1;;
Just an hour left for Luca Connell to find a loan move before the transfer window closes. As he is in Scotland he doesn't get the benefit of the domestic transfer window that will be in place in England from tomorrow.
Seemingly he has been held back up to now because Celtic have been short on left back cover and he has effectively been the second choice left back since the Bolingoli Covid incident, although he hasn't even made the bench all season (and he's not really a left back anyway). However, right at the last minute Celtic have signed a left back on loan from Milan, so Connell is back to having no realistic prospect of meaningful game time this season. Now it's just a question of whether they will find a last minute loan for him or leave him to idle at Celtic until January.
Is the loan window not a bit longer for EFL clubs
?
Yes, but he's not at an EFL club and they can't sign a player from another country (Scotland to England would be considered an international transfer in this case).
Looks like he is going to have to give up his spot in the Europa League squad as well to make space for the Uruguayan left back they have just loaned in. So he'd be the only player still at the club who is not in the EL squad if he stays.
Theo Walcott signing for Southampton is not good news for Obafemi
It's not good news for any of the Irish lads at Southampton to be honest, they've all been struggling for minutes already this season and this will just push them back further.
I'm not sure they play in the same position?
No goalscorers yesterday but a couple of youngsters making progress:
George Nunn started for Chelsea, after a few games on the bench: https://www.google.com/search?client...9802;ln;fp;1;;
Tom Cannon's form for Everton U18s seems to have made an impact as he was on the bench for their U23s:https://www.google.com/search?client...9802;ln;fp;1;;
Has a pathway opened up for Coventry with both Cullen and Jack Wilshire leaving West Ham? Did West Ham sign any other players in this position?
Cullen going moves him one step closer I guess. I don't think Wheelchair leaving will make much difference either way. I'd still like to see him go out on loan before the English transfer window closes. Championship or even League 1 would be good.
Suffice to say, in keeping with the usual standards of Celtic's youth development "strategy", there was no loan move arranged for Luca Connell before the deadline.
He played his last game of senior professional football on 22 April 2019 and, barring an injury crisis, he is unlikely to play another one until January 2021 at the earliest.
Similarly there was no move for Barry Coffey either. He's slightly older than Connell. I wouldn't be overly surprised if he never plays a senior professional game to be honest. Not a good sign when he can't even get a loan move to the Scottish lower leagues.
Still time for Obafemi to get a Championship loan if Walcott truly limits his chances.
Connell has been cut from Celtic's Europa League squad to make space for the new left back signed on deadline day. Confirms his position as the 26th and last pick in the squad. There is actually an empty space in the squad list but they couldn't fill it because they haven't produced enough home grown players so had to go with a man short. Which says it all really.
Thought I’d post this here: https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2020...n-dan-clearly/
Sometimes these are the fine margins that dictate whether a young player will make it or not, the wrong injury at the wrong time. The loss of an opportunity.
Look at Trent Alexander Arnold, it took a serious injury to Clyne, who was first choice, to give him the game time to become a truly special player.
Wow, that's a really scummy thing to do. Well, at least Cleary has had a better career than Brewitt, winning two LOI Prem titles, one FAI Cup, one League of Ireland Cup, an FAI Cup runner-up medal and runner-up medals for both the English League Cup and Europa League in 2015-2016, even though he was an unused sub in only one Europa game. Anyone think Cleary could get another chance in England?
Anyway, there wasn't much action tonight in PL2, but one game had a lot of Irish interest - Josh Giurgi scored the winner for Norwich in a 2-1 win over Stoke, with Hondermarck providing the assist and Omobamidele playing at centre-back. Meanwhile Ethan Varian started for Stoke while two recent recruits were also in their squad - Gabriel Adebambo started up front while young centre-half David Okagbue was on the bench: https://www.premierleague.com/match/...0-21/tbc-v-tbc
Has Hondermarck declared for Ireland?
More or less. He referenced it before and there's 0 chance he'd get in the stratosphere of the French team anyway. I reckon he needs to sort his passport out though if hasn't already.
What has become of Gavin Kilkenny. I thought at start of season last year he might have a chance of breaking into the Bournemouth team but he didnt get a sniff. I havent seen him even on the bench since they got relegated this season.
