Shay Given was meant to turn up at a book signing in London yesterday Saturday the 28th of October organised by the Republic of Ireland supporters club ( London Branch) but cancelled it the previous day because of illnesses. Yet he turns up on MOTD extra on BBC 2 on Sunday afternoon as a guest looking in good health. Packie Bonner did a similar thing for his autobiography last year. Supporters clubs are not high on footballer's agendas.
I nearly went to that but my son's game started at 11am instead of the usual KO time of 9am. Good job in hindsight.
He's a wile man for pimping himself out! And exaggerated stories seem to be the modus operandi for the book
Given was interviewed on BBC 5 Live this morning (745am-ish). May be available on their podcast
New head goalkeeping coach at Derby - https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44655688
It would be nice to get more Irish Managers and Coaches at good levels .
Out of contract at Derby County, but Rooney hopes to get him re-employed: "Unfortunately it is a position we are in with other players who are out of contract. It is difficult for us to do anything at the minute. Hopefully when that opens up and changes, we can get Shay in." (Derbyshire Live, 29 July)
Derby have less than a full team at senior level with less than two weeks to go until the season kicks off. I think Blackpool a few year ago are the only other case like this I've seen.
