Well that's true. It has to be the game referenced in TheBoss' opening post though?

Yes, I put Shels v Rangers as a neutral venue. I did that cause the Shels officials decided not to stage in Ireland, so they chose a 'neutral venue'.
Looking at it now, the 3rd match between Shels and Belenenses was in Dublin, so I got that wrong. Better update it !
Had a bit of Eurofever myself over the last few days and crunched a few numbers. Some of the things that are noticeable :
- LOI clubs benefit hugely from having the second leg at home. 36 of our / their 53 wins have come in this fashion. In the UEFA competitions, something like 53% of ties are won by the team playing the second leg at home, so what could explain our situation, given that any opponent has to travel the same distance that we do? Another reason I find it surprising is that a couple of years ago the two Rovers both got good away results (in Denmark and Ukraine), but weren't able to capitalise on them here (both losing 2-0). Shamrock Rovers then played a second leg in Serbia and won that tie.
- The away goals rule seems to have been kind to LOI clubs. 8 of 53 wins have come from it, as opposed to just 6 of 175 defeats (15% compared to 3.5%).
- LOI clubs have won through two rounds on ten occasions, but are still waiting for victory in a third tie. St. Pat's v Karpaty Lviv a couple of years ago was probably, on paper, the best chance yet . . . not a great time for a player revolt to happen!
Not sure where to put this .....
On the subject of 'neutral'/strange venues, Linfield hosted Dundalk in Holland as they were banned from playing in Windsor at the time. And Bohs hosted Dynamo Dresden in Dundalk because they were banned from Dalyer! The Shels playoff was played in Tolka. Both legs of Cork Hibs v Pezoporikos were played in Cork a few days apart.
Countless other games home and away were played in grounds other than the club's usual home for various reasons.
Bohs also played Omonia in Cork (Flower Lodge). This was after the trouble in their game v Newcastle.
Shels v Belenses 3rd match was played in Tolka iirc.
Never knew that the Linfield v Dundalk was in Holland or Cork Hibs' 'AWAY' game was in Cork, amended the table in the following way Linfield v Dundalk is down as Neutral, Pezoporikos v Cork Hibs down as a Home game.
The other games mentioned by both posters did take place in Ireland so they would stay as Home games.
A 100% losing record against Liechtensteiner opposition does not make pretty reading!
The record against Slovakian opposition is down as 0-1-3-5-9. But the only tie I can see is Pat's v Slovan, which ended 5-3 on aggregate, with Slovan winning home and away.
So that leaves a tie where the LoI side drew one game and lost the other, losing 4-2 on aggregate. I can't see this anywhere though. There's only one tie against Slovakian opposition on the Irish page of rsssf.com, and also on the Slovak page on rsssf.com either (which is admittedly 20 years out of date). Any ideas?
Sligo lost to Spartak Trnava in 2012
1-1 away in 1st leg
1-3 home in 2nd leg
Thanks. Doesn't ring any particular bell to be honest!
Bit of a milestone for Dundalk this time around, the home leg is our 50th match in Europe.
Stats now updated to include this years results.
I was looking at some Euro results recently and I notice that Derry's record for the biggest away win by any European team in Scotland (5-1 v Gretna, 2005-06) fell in 2013 in doubly League of Ireland linked fashion.
After scraping past Drogheda in the first qualifying round of the 2013-14 Europa League Malmo played Hibernian and beat them 7-0 at Easter Road and 9-0 on aggregate. The Hibs manager was one Patrick Fenlon.
Also, in terms of records I *think* Harps hold the record for half time deficit in European competition. They were 9-0 down against Derby at halftime, but 'only' lost 12-0. Don't think any other club has scored 9 in the first half of any Euro game.
One more European record that Irish clubs contribute to.... Liverpool are hte only club to have hit double figures more than once in Europe. They did it three times against Stromsgodset (NOR), Oulu (FIN) and Dundalk.
Didn't think I'd be coming onto a thread regarding League of Ireland in Europe and see Finn Harps mentioned..
And another Irish record in Europe has just fallen.... Aberdeen travelled a couple of hundred kilometres further to Kairat in Kazakhstan this week than Pats did to Karagandy. It's only a matter of time before an Iceland v Kazakhstan tie though to blow that out of the water!
