Yep it was his debut. McAuley's talent has always been there but he lets himself down a lot off in his attitude and off the pitch stuff which is why he’s at his 4th LOI club in 2 years since coming home from Liverpool. Hopefully he can get the head down and do well with Athlone
LOI at its best last night. Manager sent off for for celebrating a last minute equaliser.
You can't go pulling a team off the pitch for a bad refereeing decision FFS.
And technically he did kick the ball away after the whistle had been blown, so while it was petty from the ref and an awful call from the lino to give a throw, the ref was within his rights to give a yellow so it can hardly be the worst decision ever
I’d say something if it was a one off ‘mistake’ but he later sent the manager off for harmlessly celebrating a last minute equaliser. Not to mention the fact the player has to serve a ban because a referee was incompetent and quite clearly got it wrong. On top of that we very nearly ended up losing the game because of that decision. Quite often players kick the ball away after the whistle has been blown without punishment, so I’m not buying into the ref was following the rule sh*t, because if he was following the rules he’d of never blown the whistle in the first place...
Irregardless the only consistency with match officials in this country is they’re nearly all equally as bad as each other every other week for every team. It’s more common to hear of a ref walking away from a game being criticised then being commended for a good game.
How can we expect people to take the league seriously if the referees are consistently bad?
The fact the player still has to serve a ban for that is a farce is itself..:.
Drogheda lose on pens to Derry after having two men (and manager Tim Clancy) sent off. The usual misery for Drogs v Derry in the cup. (Four losses since 2015). Unbearable.
But the referee wasn't incompetent. Kicking the ball away after the whistle has gone is a yellow card. It's a really petty yellow, but it's a yellow. It's the linesman who gave the wrong decision.
People get their knickers in far too much of a twist when officials make a mistake to be honest.
Harps in true Harps style made as hard of work as possible of Fairview, scored 3 in extra time when it never should have got there,Ger Doherty will never have an easier game I'd say,but we are completely shot of confidence in front of goal ........
Dean Clarke and Gary McCabe on the scoresheet for Kilnamanagh yesterday as they beat St Kevin's Boys 4-1. Conor Kenna and Seán Harding also played (Kevin's, slightly confusingly, also had a Conor McKenna)
Davy O'Sullivan taking on his former club Longford shortly. Any other prominent ex-LoI players involved over the weekend?
Drogs assistant manager none to pleased with the ref(Paul McLoughlin) in today's tie v Derry.
Didn't see the match my-self so maybe someone who did can let us know if his comments are justified? (Having seen McLoughlin in action a few times already this season i kinda already know the answer!)
