Bohs really trying to squeeze every last drop out of the hipster football fan trend have released a frankly terrible new away shirt for 2019 with Bob Marley's face and a Rastafari coloured stripe down the front.
Won't be long before the cultural appropriation accusation will be thrown at them, probably should have played it safe and gone for Phil Lynott but I'm not a marketing genius like the guy who came up with this clearly is...

Said it in the other thread but the absolute state of that, genuinely hilarious to the point I actually howled laughing at it. What on earth are they playing at, literally parodying themselves.
Not even 2019 yet and we're already started on another year of #GreatestLeagueInTheWorld goodness.
I bet they sell a ridiculous amount of them. Not 100% about having Bob Marley's face there, a gig in 1980 in Dalymount is a weak enough link, but the white jersey with the rasta trim looks well.
They've jumped the shark at this stage, state of that. Although it will get huge publicity so a win for them
Also if any team were to have Phil Lynott on their jersey it would be Pats seeing as the first Outdoor Rock Festival held in Ireland was in Richmond with Thin Lizzy playing at it.
Never go full crusty
There's a nice bit of work for someone who is decent at photoshop, all LOI team jerseys with a face of an artist who has played at their ground on it.
Wonder how much they had to pay (if any) for image rights
Could we have Jim Corr in a tinfoil hat please?
Something like this perhaps?

Sligo are trolling us :)

On mature reflection, Jinx Lennon should be considered. Maybe for the away strip?

Here is 2 I stole from Twitter:

I love a good bit of marketing genius, but there's only so much one can take. facking hate O'Neills gear too.
It's an abomination all right, but this will probably be covered by media outlets all over the world so they could sell tonnes of them abroad. it's a fairly tenuous link, but probably the closest link a LOI club could ever get to a global icon of his stature. Will be interesting to see how the sales go....
here's one stolen from twitter that i thought was hilarious...
"Not sure about a football shirt with with a music icon printed on it but have to say if it's going to be Bob Marley you couldn't ask for a more appropriate sponsor than Mr. Green..."
Johnny Logan is going to be Píssed off for sure
It would be a decent kit if they left the Bob Marley image off it. The face is too much.
A decent kit for Carlow GAA, minus Marley.
Bohs AGM should be good crack next month!
We call the printer at Work 'Bob Marley'.
Its always jamming.
(Cough)

It'l be a big money earner I'd imagine. And as a third kit or novelty kit, sure, why not,as random as it is.
But as your away kit??!!!
Have you ever dealt with O'Neills??? If there was a run of 10 jerseys its out of stock and there will be a delivery in next week or so maybe...although nothing like a long waiting list to crank up the interest. This shirt is definitely going to end up on those best/worst jerseys ever on every football website, genius or joke? I just dont know!!
This thread has been the best fun on here in ages!!
The Bob Marley link to Bohs is super-tenuous to say the least. They could have at least left it until 2020, which is the 30th anniversary of his gag at Dalyer - which would have felt a bit less gimmicky,
That said - it'll sell by the bucket load, so you have to admire it. Bohs are by-far doing some of the most interesting stuff in the league to build a fanbase, and there's a lot that other clubs could learn from them.
I just hope they thought about and sorted image rights. Otherwiese, they could find the Bob Marley Estate delivers them a very hefty bill after they've done all the hard work in selling (and spending the income from) lots of these shirts. They're using his 'brand' to sell a shirt, so they should really be paying his estate/family for that right.
I mentioned this on Orielweb earlier today but didnt want to kill the buzz here. I doubt think these jerseys will be on the radar. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/m...ge-use-123949/
What's the angle?
Are Bohs gonna say it's not Marley or did they have approval? You'd think O'Neills would have done their homework at least and wouldn't print something like that without a legal opinion anyway
Awful jersey and honestly can't understand who approved it. Only positive is the level of publicity it generated, good or bad it certainly got the clubs name media profile you couldn't buy. Also, there is a nerd market in football jerseys and I can imagine a load of anoraks salivating at the picture
Just sorry for the players that will have to wear it (hopefully not too often )
I heard this eve on the radio that it's not actually a pic of Marley. It's changed just enough that they don't have to pay image rights or something to that affect...
Someone's clearly had too much weed while designing the jersey...
That said, if they manage to pull that off without having to pay for the image rights, that could be a real money spinner as the jersey will certainly be considered iconic in some circles.
Not at all! He's just announced an album of covers to commemorate the jersey.
