So India develops a military nuclear policy without any international inspections. Then the US rewards them with economic assistance for nuclear energy policies in exchange for international inspections.
Contrast this with the threats imposed on Iran for meerly stopping exisiting international inspections.

To explain the dilemma of the this particular aspect of American Foreign policy...well it's like this it's a balance of MAD thing. That is Mutually Assured Destruction to the uninitiated. If you have two allies in Asia, as the USA do, called India and Pakistan who hate each other, you need to keep both of them onside and not play favourites. So that means if one of the two has a big stick.. you have to let the other one get a big stick ... same size...to keep the peace and so it goes.

The US supports Israel - Israel has also illegally obtained the bomb and has never been inspected. Given the history of the threats to Israel, I suppose if I was a member of Likud, I'd need something as a deterrent.

Back to India and Pakistan. Just at the time Roy Keane was doing that infamous walk with his dog, these countries were damn close to some form of nuclear confrontation.
Big danger now, is the Musharraf is hanging onto power by a thread with only some of his generals and army backing him and most of Pakistan supporting Bin Laden. Much of his country is off limits to that army so it wouldn't take much to have these two countries at each others' throats again - particularly if Musharraf is assassinated and you have a more radical Islamist government - supported by pro-Islamic army leaders - with their hands on those bombs.:eek:
Kashmir will always be the the bone of contention and Musharraf has asked Bush The Fool to help with the Kashmir problem, especially after making a nuclear agreement with India, I have a feeling that a poor response by Bubble Boy will only make things worse between India and Pakistan.
Same deal with the Palestinian question. Bush no longer needs to fear the powerful Jewish lobby in the US cos he doesn't need to get elected again - what better time to get Israel and Palestine (yes, even Hamas) back talking with the carrot to both countries of massive support if they can crack a deal but if not, then the promise of reduced support to both if they don't.
If President Chimp could somehow make real progress on the Palestinian question, this would have positive effects throughout the Islamic world - even after the disgrace of Iraq.

Bush explained that India is a democracy so its different than Iran but how does that explain allowing Pakistan have nukes? Pakistan is no more democractic than Iran - their "President" is/was a General in the army who lead a coup overtake the democractically elected President.
Ah sure US will never learn that having different rules alwasy bites them in the ass eventually.

There is a lot of good a president can do on a visit to another country: negotiate treaties that enhance American security, shore up a shaky alliance, generate good will in important parts of the world. Unfortunately, President Bush didn't do any of those good things on his just-completed visit to Pakistan and India and may have done some real harm.

But sticking Mr. Musharraf with the unwelcome task of explaining to Pakistanis why his friend and ally, Mr. Bush, had granted favorable nuclear terms to Pakistan's archrival, India, while withholding them from Pakistan left him less likely to do Washington any special, and politically unpopular, favors on the terrorism front.
It's just baffling why Mr. Bush traveled halfway around the world to stand right next to one of his most important allies against terrorists — and embarrass him. India and Pakistan are military rivals that have fought each other repeatedly. They have both developed nuclear weapons outside the nonproliferation treaty, which both refuse to sign. When India exploded its first acknowledged nuclear weapons eight years ago, Pakistan felt obliged to follow suit within weeks.
So when Mr. Bush agreed to carve out an exception to global nonproliferation rules for India, it should have been obvious that Pakistani opinion would demand the same privileged treatment, and that Mr. Musharraf would be embarrassed by Mr. Bush's explicit refusal to provide it.
Indian Food is nicer than Pakistani food obviously :D

Veru funny and Cheney's infamous "Go fcuk yourself" comment to a Democrat in one of their Houses of Government is used wickedly and humourously. Obviously, for those US workers who have seen their jobs "outsourced" abroad and seeing the cheaper Chinese imports - it's not funny at all. See today, two US car manufacturers are shutting down about a dozen plants over the next 2 years.

PP - if you saw some of the TDs we have - not hard to be satirical TBH:D I voted Green Party last election and even with fcuk all publicity and fcuk all canvasing - GP got about 1300 first preferences - might have been something to do also with the protests in the area about new super dumps.
