It's pretty hard to judge him at the moment, he's not starting a lot of games in Holland, and hasn't scored or assisted a goal yet. The reports on his performances have been positive, but Cambuur are playing terrible at the moment and are early favourites for relegation.
I suppose training with the squad is going to be the first step no matter what. I'd interpret his comments as showing a big desire to actually compete for a place on the team if the chance arose, other than just making up the numbers, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't thrilled about any sort of a call up behind it all.
Cambuur did start terribly, with four big defeats in their first five games, but they went on a five game unbeaten run before being beaten by Heerenveen last weekend - unfortunately all those games unbeaten were draws so they haven't climbed out of the relegation zone - this mini-turnaround did coincide with Byrne starting to play after injury, so maybe he played a significant part in steadying the ship, even if he didn't contribute directly to any goals and at one point he was "hurled on the receipt", which has got to count for something.
Assist on the opening goal against Groningen today, Cambuur leading 2-0 at the moment
assist right at the beginning of this video
Was lurking at the back post for a tap in for the second goal
He's gonna be on OTB after 9pm tonight.
What an eloquent grounded fella. Here's hoping it all works out for him. And us.
Hit the angle of crossbar and with a terrific free-kick in the recent defeat at Heerenveen:

Skip to the hour mark, folks. Well worth a listen. This lad has his head well screwed on and if he doesn't make it then it won't be for the lack of wanting or working for it.
Makes some great points about how different it is playing with Cambuur first team compared to the development squad at City. Also speaks about how he coped with his homesickness through football. And, Christ, he loves a bit of hard work.
Really hoping for the best with this lad.
I enjoyed that interview. I thought the comment at the end from Molloy was odd though - Are your family still in Clonliffe Gardens? That's nobodies business.
Great podcast all round
Anyone know where the Ajax game is being shown at the weekend? Can't find the info online anywhere.
It's on the red button on Sky Sports Two: http://www.skysports.com/football/aj...uwarden/339295
I checked it myself last night. I assumed (wrongly) that it was the big block of flats that turns the corner from Clonliffe onto Poplar Row, hence why they made reference to it. Certainly the actual Clonliffe Gardens would appear to have a much glossier look to it, therefore why would they need to move?
