Vikings duo hit with injury blow
Thomas McGauley and Tony O’Connor, who formed half of the miserly defence of Dublin City in their First Division title-winning season last time around, may miss the start of the club’s debut Premier Division campaign having been hit with the news that they may have to undergo surgery to overcome niggling injuries.
Veteran full back O’Connor, who won an eircom League title with Bohemians as recently as last year, made it two championships in successive seasons after helping the Vikings to the First Division crown last November.
But he is crocked with knee ligament trouble and may have to have to surgery to repair the damage.
And central defender McGauley, who popped up with several crucial goals for the Whitehall outfit last season, could also go on the surgeon’s treatment table to put a troublesome Gilmore’s groin problem behind him.
Dublin boss John Gill has signed several players this close-season, but should two of his starting defensive unit from last season be forced out for the start of the league in two months’ time, it would represent a blow to his chances of leading the Vikings to Premier Division safety in their first season in the top flight.
