Lads, Paul McGee has just been signed up as Citys assistant manager. Not much is known about him, can you shine any light on it.
- What's his history in the game?
- Does he have any coaching badges?
- Was he full time or part time with ye?
- Is he any good, tactics, fitness, skill?
Any info on him would be great.
I know he wasn't on everyone Christmas Card list but that aside, what was he like?
A quick flick through this seasons threads should tell u all u need to know. Otherwise, expect plenty of answers involving the words 'gimp', 'chimp', 'clown' etc :D Not my words might I add, but words I wouldn't be too far from agreeing to all the same

A Face, he was Galway united manager circa 1989. He has the distinction of being our manager for our biggest away defeat (9-1 in the Brandywell) and our biggest home defeat (6 - 0 to Derry - 3 months after the Brandywell humiliation). His most famous signing was bringing Pat Dolan to the LOI. He is also GUFC's all time record goal scorer. In recent years, he operated a very successful Soccer Accedemy in association with Salthill Devon.Quote:

Biography
After a wonderful playing career during which he was regarded as one of the most prolific strikers in Ireland, McGee entered into management to take over at newly-formed Limerick 37.
A native of Co. Sligo, McGee was not long in the League of Ireland when he moved to England, where he enjoyed successful spells with a number of clubs. He returned to Ireland in the mid-1980s and joined Galway United. His 74 goals scored for the Tribesmen during his two spells there (1985-90 & 1992-93) make him the all-time record goalscorer at Galway United.
McGee has made an impressive start to his managerial career with Limerick 37, guiding the club to a very respectable fourth place finish during their first season in the eircom League of Ireland.
I thought this was about the Paul McGee that played for Linfield. £50,000 he cost us from Wimbledon and was awful. He was that bad we subbed him with the sub keeper one day.
He's probably the one man who has the social skills to unite Galway and Limerick fans under one banner ;)

I think he might have been Alan's Manager at Galway United. Totally opposite charaters though Alan was and is a thorough gentleman and he will do a good job in Cork.

Well I for one am glad that Paul McGee has finally found a club large enough of stature to accomodate both his hunger, thirst and drive for success in the game of association football. :) To say nothing of his planet-sized ego.
I also wonder about the Corkies at times. Perhaps Alan Matthews will also give him etiqette classes (though it's more likely than Matthews himself will mysteriously vanish never to be seen again, leaving The Hirsute One to take over).
