How will this affect the search for a new manager?
i have a feeling that sir bobby wil be asked to help recruit the new manager
"The Board will select people, with considerable football experience in the professional game, to appoint the new manager".
I'm sure an International Football Consultant has to be involved here otherwise what are we paying him for. But this is the FAI we are talking about ....
exactly , also he is up for review after the campaign so he can be let go then if needs be
well .. it rules out the Bora guy who is 63 or something ..
Can you imagine two pensioners managing Ireland? Gift Grub would have a field day with the "odd couple" or "grumpy old men"
This suggests that outside help will be used to select the new boss:
An FAI statement released earlier in the morning read: "The FAI board will now seek to appoint an outside adviser from within the football industry to assist them in the recruitment of a successor.
"The board will select people with considerable football experience in the professional game to appoint the new manager."
Under-21 boss Don Givens will manage the Ireland team in their final Euro 2008 qualifier against Wales next month, while Delaney confirmed
there should be news on the appointment of the FAI's advisers in the next seven to 10 days.
"The board are meeting in a week or a week and a half's time to look at individual names in terms of appointing a couple of advisers to make the next appointment," he said.
As long as it's not Bryan Hamilton again !!
Yes. Unfortunately for the FAI they forgot in their misspelt press release what Robson's title suggests he is paid for. Or do they know what they are paying Robson for? Or was this a hurried press release with a lot of waffle to end the matter regarding Stan. A lot of questions left unanswered - but what do you expect from the FAI?
Actually, I think it's bordering on disgraceful that Robson is being kept on but it all comes back to the FAI's incompetence.
€250k per annum I believe but he's been off sick through most of it. Considering they were originally paired as a double act, should Bobby not go himself and stop taking money for nothing?
well would you want him near the decision making? Just read the David Kelly piece in the indo this morning .. if you can get past the "he's a decent man to have a pint with and good fun to boot" malarkey .. he makes the point that
"It's a difficult leap for someone of Delaney's substantial ego to countenance but being brave enough to make such a gamble could preserve the well-being of Irish football and, perhaps more pointedly, his job."
So its probably more a move to save his neck ..
What a Joke Bobby must have more Doctor bills he wants us to pay for him.
The FAI absolutely fears the press. Yesterday's farce highlighted this again. You have to ask yourself why? Is there something else they're trying to cover up? Time for a tribunal methinks :)

He won't be there after the Wales game. It's only until the end of the campaign! Makes no difference does it.
Jeez, there's no pleasing some people.
He gets castigated for getting involved in the first place, he gets castigated for making a wrong call, now he gets castigated for staying out of the process the next time round and leaving it to more experienced football people.
John Delaney wants to make decisions but doesn't want to take responsibility for them. Only in the FAI ...
Robson's contract was for 2 years AFAIR, so not sacking him at the moment makes no real difference, it would be finished soon anyway. I'd imagine (hope?) he'll be involved in the recruitment process for the new manager, but I do wonder what his opinion of the FAI, and Delaney in particular, is after all of this. Or if said opinion will ever make it into the public domain.
exactly again people on foot.ie jumping to conclusions. hiis contradt is up anyway so might aswell be used for the wales game with givens and then say thanks bobby pity it did not work out.
If one were of a cynical disposition, might one not suspect that Delaney is carefully distancing himself from the next appointment, just in case they select another "Delaney's Donkey" like Stan?
And if one were especially cynical, one might also imagine that if instead this Consultant should actually produce a "thoroughbred", that his role will be conveniently "forgotten", whilst Delaney basks in the reflected glow of future successes?
No, it would be a terrible man who would even think it, it really would...
There's a shortage of personnel of a technical nature at international level. The Under 21's have an away game in Montenegro which will be handled by the assistant Under 21 Manager, while the Under 21 Manager will be in a caretaker capacity with the Senior International team in Cardiff. I think Bobby Robson might be an extra pair of hands with the seniors so to speak. And he was deciding to review his own position at the end of the campaign it would have been silly to let him go at this stage as he may prove useful in preparations for the game against Wales.
Maybe they are keeping Bobby to lure in his old chum Jose
If that were true and worked out, Bobby would have earned every penny he has been paid, for the past two years sick leave or no sick leave. And if Jose turned our fortunes around with some of the slackers we have in the squad he'd prove he is still the SPECIAL ONE, big style.:D
I am real, he should have resigned I agree but I would not blame him for not going by his own accord as he thought he could do a good job.
Nothing wrong with saying thanks and good luck and bye.
Just manners I suppose. He is gone, I dont hold any bad feeling towards him now, negative thoughts will not get me anywhere and I would rather look at the positives and the future. The past cannot be changed.
I don't know about here but definately not in England. Under 21 managers are contracted. Don't know about any level after that.
I lumped on Robson at 25-1 to be the football consultant with Paddy Power last night. Now 12-1, which has to be good.
We are paying him already. He knows the international game inside out.
Probably Noely hocked his guitar and got him at 50/1 yesterday
When i say lumped on, it was £1stg.Quote:
Your one bet would have cut the odds in a market like that.
