Irish Football Online has closed with immediate effect.
I would like to thank those who have helped the site out over the last five years and without whose help this day might have come sooner.
I would like to especially thank the following people for their help:
* Stephen Burke
* Declan Carey
* Trevor Carey
* Terry Collins
* Niall Conway
* Pat Costello
* Brian Dalton
* Ray Egan
* Aisling Fennin
* Paul Holland
* Mark Lane
* Brendan McKenna
* Kevin Moore
* Andy Needham
* Phil Nolan
* Vincent O'Connor
* Bernard O'Neill
* Fran Whearty
I would like to thank the players and coaching staff at all the League of Ireland clubs for keeping things interesting over the last five years and for the most part doing their best to avoid hitting me on the sidelines.
I would like to thank all my fellow photographers who have put up with me on the sidelines and at press conferences. Keep up the good work everyone.
Before closing I would also like to acknowledge the good work done by Cork City, Dundalk, Finn Harps, Shelbourne, Waterford United and Wexford Youths this year with their regular team bulletins/press releases.
Thank you and goodbye
Tom Carey

Sorry
try this: http://www.irishfootballonline.com/h...ue-of-Ireland/
Sorry - just seen it down the bottom - thats a shame, i liked that site
Just noticed that. Liked that site aswell :(
Infinitely better than that English football infested eleven-a-side.
I'm very disappointed by this. It was my first port of call for eL news. Any idea why this has happened?
Very disappointed. It was only done up nicely a few months ago to a more modern style. :(
That's a pity, I liked that site. Usually my first port of call for EL stuff.
Anyone know the reason behind the closure.
sorry to hear irishfootballonline is closed. it was very handy to get the top scorers in both divisions!:(
Always kept up to date, unlike eleven-a-side. Hopefully extratime.ie will come to pass.
Gutted, i had it set as my homepage and it was the best place to get info from. Always updated and reliable. I thought that it was the only dedicated LOI left that had any substance.
The FAI wouldn't go far wrong by employing Tom to supply content for their site.
A huge loss.
IFO always had the best match reports - knowledgeable, fair and original, and the most reliable fixtures/tables.
I always wondered how they managed to get it done.
That's a real shame, it was the best no-frills Irish football site going. Stats and news invariably up-to-date and complete. Almost irreplaceable, it's perhaps asking too much of Walk The Chalk to fill the void. Does anyone know why IFO disappeared so abruptly? I doubt it was a hissy fit a la the late unlamented Sokk'urCenntrall.
That's terrible news.
Massive thanks to Tom for what he did, the site will be missed in a major way.
Sad to see it go best site for info..
Sorry to see this site go, decent League of Ireland sites are thin on the ground without losing one of the better ones. They are to be commended for maintaining their efforts for 5 years.
At Walkthechalk.com we steered away from match reports and news as myself and Sniffer felt this was amply covered by IFO and 11 a side, so the focus was mainly on stats with a simple match note to accompany each game rather than an in depth report.
We receive much of the same information from the clubs and FAI through Press Releases as IFO did but decided not to add to our workload by
publishing it.
With a space now there we may as well start publishing these releases and any other news that comes our way. Hopefully I'll organize it over the next week to help get the info from the clubs to the fans.
Reliable fixtures and goalscorers for both divisions are already covered on our site, same with suspensions and a live tv schedule. Errors will of course come up from time to time but we need the help of the supporters to keep our data accurate - we have full time jobs and families beyond walkthechalk and its near impossible to get all the info we would like from the FAI and the clubs.
I would like to echo Tom's sentiments in crediting the clubs he mentioned for their frequent communications and I would urge other clubs to follow suit.
Any ideas for improving walkthechalk are most welcome, any offers of help equally so. Hopefully we'll be able to go some way to filling the gap left by IFO.
I'm trying hard not to make this post read like someone handing out flyers at funeral; I more than most appreciate the attachment you build to your website and I can imagine how difficult it was for Tom to pull the plug. Best of luck to him in his future ventures.

Pity that, was a decent site for news; thanks and well done to those involved.Quote:

EDIT: sorry, I did not see the original thread with which this has been merged (I did look, honest!)
Fair play, it was a great site for the eL. Well done Tom, it will be missed.
