Puns

I was reading through articles of last nights matches this morning, when I went to Eleven-a-side.com. Straight away I was greeted with three glaring, headline puns.

"Toshack not at Czech mate yet"

"Students get full marks"

"Joachim not Loew in confidence"

I thought to myself, Jesus Christ they're bad. This is the first ive noticed such a volume of puns on one of these websites. So I was wondering, does anyone else have any puns like this they remember? Sometimes it can be funny just to have a laugh at few of these :)

Not so much a pun but the best football related headline i ever read was "Super Cally go ballistic,Celt*c are atrocious".
The day after Inverness CT knocked Celtic out of the cup.

Poor UCD fans are riddled with them anytime they play half decent.
Students pass Derry test.

I love puns. Put ten entries into a pun competition there last August.
Was convinced one would win.
Unfortunately, no pun in ten did.

Every commentator is a wit when it comes to Joe Gamble. Devine isnt immune either.

Just buy the Sun and you'll be bombarded with them.

Name of a flower shop in Killester is called Best Buds :D

There used to be a shop which sold pieces for people who liked repairing, darning and making clothes in Phibsboro Dublin, near Dalymount Park called '' Buttons and Bows''. Some football fans coined the following in honour of the shop.
'' I wouldn't give you buttons for BOHS!''

never seen it but how about cork sh**ty while cobh ramble on

"Harps in Tune"
"Harps Out of Tune"

More of the latter in recent years of course, but things are looking up.

Sligo paper had heading "Rovers new recipe" when Paul Cook was named as manager.

The back page of The Sun the day after our home game against Depor had the headline Shel Done :o - However, at least my mug made the back page :D

Not LoI related but Manchester Evening News reporting on the aftermath of the training ground bust up between Joey Barton and Ousmane Dabo:

"Barton to bury Hatchet" :eek: :eek: :eek:

I love puns from the crowd, like when Frost was coming on for Pats in the showgies.

'i havent seen a cold reception like that for a long time'

'there on thin ice now'

Or when benny the bull (our legendary mascot) was waveing to the crowd,

'your milking it now benny'

God I hate them. Students teach Waterford lesson. Students fail Bray exam.

When we were in Europe last, those who couldn't make it over sent a "Good luck in your exams" card to the team.

It was in various reports.

Bohs, Galway, Waterford, Sligo and UCD do decent reports on their websites. I think the rest just rob or are crap (special marks go to Drogheda).

Bray as well.

When Shels use outside stuff they credit the source, however, many a time 'reporters' off ripped straight from our site without any credit :rolleyes:

Just on the business theme, there are two stand out ones I've come across:

Lino Richie
Flock Off (they get rid of unwanted birds nesting in your attic!) :D

There's a chimney-sweeper around Cork with a van that says "It soots you".
