Never Never Never

Never never never was a speech by a certain reverend Paisley in the north quite a number years ago but today he wants to be sat at the same table as the republicans and looks forward to power sharing , strange times indeed . This week for the first time in my life I will entry a GGA stadium to watch my beloved Irish team take the field against Wales at Croke Park many people said it would never happen in my life time and yet I will be walking up the steps knowing that my life long hatred of the GAA will at last come to an end . It will no doubt be a very emotional time for me but I look forward to the future as I glance back over my shoulder at the past .:rolleyes:

Really, enlighten me who the GAA have murdered in Northern Ireland.

Chill out lads. The original post was rejoicing in a changing Ireland, no need for you guys to rake up old hostilities.

Where to start , the GAA have hated all non Irish sports due to the fear factor they have this idea that people would stop wanting to be GGA players and turn to soccer instead . You will never see a soccer club in Kerry will not until Jack turned up and now the county is awash with them . So did the GAA fall apart in Kerry again no . So at long last we (and I mean all soccer loving people of of country ) will get our chance to see OUR TEAM play in croke park this is change yes Rugby was first up but this means the world to me as it's always been a dream of mine that this would happen . Now the last part of this jigsaw is to see us play under a united Ireland team , some of you may laugh but 20 years ago who would ever think this Saturday would ever happen ?

The GAA is a staunchly republican organisation and if you are seriously trying to tell me that no members of the association in NI have ever been linked to paramilitary organisations, ........

Watching an Irish team play in Croker will be a great joy for me. Pity I have such low expectations for this one.

To suggest that it is directly tied to paramilitary organisations is ridiculous..Typical anglophile response draped in ignorance, a hatred of something ya know nothing about. If you despise our heritage and culture so much why dont you change your nationality.Read a history book and find out what the GAA did for this country...and then come back to me with a point that isnt founded on presumption and cliched stereotypes...

Seems to be a bit incongruent to have a lifelong hatred of the GAA while at the same time harbouring a dream to see the Irish soccer team play in Croker.

You can say what you like about the GAA but they as an organisation they have managed to defend the interests of Gaelic sports over the decades ensuring they go from strength to strength, a trajectory that has culminated in the construction of one of the top stadia in Europe.

Meanwhile, back at Merrion Square...

why do GAA heads always trot this old donkey out? it may be by far the best stadium in ireland, for lack of competition, but it hardly compares to other stadia around europe as "tops". for gods sake, its not even a full oval.

It's one of the top five as regards capacity. Facilities are decent too. Didn't realise symmetry was a key criterion for greatness.

One of the main reasons why the GAA has been so successful since the foundation of the state was that it was backed by the Catholic Church and the Government. A luxury football never had.

Thats not to take anything away from the organisation but it perhaps partially explains why the FAI have always been lagging behind. I remember the days when soccer was banned in schools.

Over the post , you seem to fail to understand my point , let me make it very clear to you .
I have never visited any GAA ground or bought a raffle ticket and so on as this has been my stance againist them because they would never let OUR IRISH TEAM TEAM PLAY AT THEIR GROUND , simple as that without going into it in too much detail . So for all the blind , dear & stick their heads in the sand people of certain GAA members i will take my seat on Saturday and say never is too long of a time and today is the first day forward for all Irish people in this land of our's .

Fair enough. But what I don't understand is this obsession with wanting to play at GAA grounds. Who cares about showing the GAA the error of their ways. Personally, I'd be more concerned with the fact that we don't have a decent soccer stadium of our own at present. We have to ask for a loan of Croker while your "blind , dear & stick their heads in the sand people of certain GAA members" are laughing all the way to the bank.
We obviously have different priorities.

not again....what really gets me about this place is the soccer heads loook down on the GAA, which the GAA are well aware of, yet will jump into their stadium and expect everything to be done their way....can ye blame the GAA really?!?!

rugby went in, paid a lot of respect to the GAA, with none of the sh1te like is coming from soccer quarters..

what in gods name are you blowing on about? do paying customers have to "pay respect" to businesses? because this is how the idea was sold to the GAA's aging clandestine bigots by the other members, that it was good business.
i wasnt aware either that somehow i or anyone else on this site represent "soccer quaters" or made the decision to jump into their stadium.

Is the rent money somehow more respectful when it comes from the IRFU?


All comments I've heard from Ireland players and coaches have been hugely reverential to the stadium, facilities and historic nature of the occasion, every bit as much as O'Driscoll and O'Sullivan (Bobby Robson more than anyone else).

They're making the pitch shorter so it can fit exactly to the standard GAA half-time mini-sevens field.

And, most damaging of all, the FAI appointed a man with no managerial ability just because he used to play Gaelic Football. :(



What's the criteria for showing sufficient respect - the rugby lads wouldn't even drink near the ground! :eek: Certain GAA people went looking for any sign that the soccer crowd were "throwing their weight around, thinking they own the place" and have pounced on any perceived slight. The whole silly "northern terrace" comment for one - where was all the outrage when the GAA printed tickets for somewhere called "The New Stand" at Croke Park and ignored Michael Cusack's legacy.

Sorry lads but I am a soccer diehard and it's the way I see it , I will never love the GAA but I see this as a turning point . So will I buy a lottery ticket the answer is yes , but only a Galway United lottery ticket .
