It's important that Ward does well. For a brief time he was the record eL transfer fee and if he and Bennett can do well it will justify further increases in transfer fees to Britain.
Wes Hoolahan got a 90th min equaliser against Forest.
Hawkins & Jason Byrbe started for Coventry & Cardiff.
what is it about Ward.Couldnt kick snow off a rope here and then gets his golden ticket to cross the water and cant stop scoring?
He was played out of position a lot by Farrelly.
He was still rubbish here. Fair play to him, seems to be coping with the lower level stuff now. Lets hope he can rebuild his confidence and if he continues at this rate he might get a move back to the premier division here.
Why? Would defeat the purpose.
Would answer a lot of questions about the relative merit of various leagues and would provide a good level of competition for eL clubs if they were playing the likes of Birmingham, Preston, Wolves, Hearts
With Ward I guess its also down to player happiness and being played in teh proper position..
Wolves fans are very fanatical.. and with gates of 20,000 in such an enclosed stadium is daunting... Mick has done a good job bringing talent into the club and working with them since he was dropped right in the **** when he first took over..
I hope he keeps going at Wolves and gets them into the Premeriship or atleast playoff position..
Ward does look good in the 4 games he has played so far..
Extending the cup would be a great idea....
1. Marketing would be alot easier..
2. Crowds would be up since other teams are coming into it..
3. The players in all the LoI teams would be upfor it and push them to improve alot more..
It would overall benefit the league as it will get the League known more and the players known and scouted more.. bringin more money in which means more developement which means more players wanting to move up from grass roots.. and a nice circle..
To raise their profile... Du'uh pete
Every club is looking for outlets to merchandise their club.. wether it be in Ireland or further afield in Europe and Asia..
Marketing is a huge aspect of footballing business and it has many levels to it if you can get a foothold into a country/league.. Alliances and feeder clubs are a good thing.. working with the local community to help the local team and boosting the profile of both clubs to benefit both clubs is essential to keeping the smaller club/country alive and increasing football growth..
In the offseason for the larger club they do tours of the Ireland teams they are with and it increases money, media, sales and the players increase as well..
Without wishing to wind anyone up I suspect they might not join it with just Irish clubs, but if there was a Scottish (and maybe Welsh) element then it might be sellable as (and I know the term would p*ss us all off) a Home Nations Club Championship.
I'm fairly sure there is a Nordic version of this.
There is , its called the Royal League another name that would be great for any potential competition:)
English Championship clubs wouldnt join the setanta cup, they think that the eircom league is conference standard as witnessed by comments like, "we took a chance on him", from the cardiff manager after the whopping transfer they paid to Shels for Jason Byrne, its absolute pie in the sky stuff to think they would be interested in playing in the competition. Well done to Ward i am pleasantly surprised to see how well he is doing.
Dave Jones is not very bright at all though. Firstly, by signing Kevin Campbell, and secondly by just not being intelligent.
FFS lads, has no one any sense of sarcasm anymore?
