Has anyone involved explained what the point of the B Team is yet?
Is it a glorified U-21 Team
or an Eircom League eleven
or our 12-22 ranked players
or uncapped players over 21 (hard to think there are 11 of those really!)
There are quite a few players I'd like to see in them. A combination of Douglas, Gamble, Deery, and McPhail (to see if the hype is worth it) in midfield over a couple of games.
McCarthy of Leicester I'd like to see. McShane has been elevated, so St Ledger could do with a run out. I'm sure someone of the eL brigade could point us in the direction of a few defenders worthy of a place in the team, let alone the squad.
McGeady could do with a run out, as could the likes of Long, and Stokes.
Bwagner, didn't you slag the mod Plastic paddy as a wannabe irish and now you want Trundle and randomers in the team? Seek help my friend...
Anyway the EL teams will be less than happy to give up their players 3 days before the last game of the season so if some are called up, expect them to withdraw. Typical FAI
Of course they would, lets be realistic, any publicity they get, for example one of their players representing their country at any level is likely to be snatched with both hands..... cork city wouldn't release him, that makes me laugh, in that case i can't see ANY of the english sides releasing their players either.
GK:
Mick Devine
Colin Doyle
Shane Supple
Conrad Logan
Graham Stack
Darren Randolph
Anyone care to list the options for the other positions from the players in this thread and EL players? :)

Doyle played in the last game. I'm not sure if Quigley was injured. The reason he's not in the current squad is because he won't be eligible for the next set of qualifiers. He'll almost certainly be in the B squad.
You said this earlier and I replied to it. He has declared for us 100 times. :)Quote:
He still has not even declared I dont hink
According to the program from the Czech game, the players expecting to be vying for contention are:
GK: Graham Stack, Shane Supple, Conrad Logan, Colin Doyle, Michael Devine, Dan Connor, Darren Quigley, Joe Murphy.
DF: Kevin Foley, Paul McShane, Stephen Kelly, Joey O'Brien, Sean St Ledger, Paddy McCarthy
MF: Kevin Deery, Joe Gamble, Stephen Ireland, Jay Tabb, Willo Flood, Gary Dempsey, Michael Doyle, Stephen McPhail
FW: Andy Keogh, Jason Byrne, Richie Foran, Shane Long, Stephen Ward
McShane, Kelly, Ireland, and possibly McPhail should be in the senior squad for the San Marino game, but the rest are definite candidates. I'd add Stephen Hunt, Glen Whelan and Daryl Murphy (if fit) to that list.
Whelan's a bit old for a B team, no?
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The only good thing to come out of Berti Vogts tenure as Scotland manager is the Futura squad that Ranier Bonhoff was in charge of. They competed regularily, developed players who obviously weren't good enough for the 1st team squad, but were too old for the U21's.
Alexander, Caldwell, McFadden, Boyd, Pearson, McCulloch, Maloney, Beattie, Hartley(one of Scotlands most important layers currently) all players who have played for the Future squad and who are current internationals.
There is a purpose to the B Internationals, it'll be worth it in the long term.
Must've been thinking about someone else. Stand by my point though
Hartley is 30, played for the B team only at the start of 2005, and he is an automatic started for Scotland now. And they're not doing too bad at all.
David Forde of Derry should be considered for GK
He retired from the senior side, he's obviously not going to play for the feckin B team
There is a few ways of lookin at the "B" team. The way I look at it is, we don't experiment with players in friendlies or competitive games, so these games are the place to do it. For example we don't have a clue how reliable some backup players are for the senior team. Personally speaking the Goalkeeper is a crisis position, in its current state. Kenny has had one full game and was muck. I believe there is an underlying lack of confidence with Henderson too. He never seemed to want the ball back to him, as in when he got it, it was hoofed away ratehr than distributed. We're not like other countries who can seemlessly switch keepers when needed without much hassle (eg Germany Lehmann + Hildebrand). Same for the abck four. We'd be better off giving a shadow back four and a shadow cm pairing a continued run of competitive games together and then see what happens when they're called up to the first team.
I'd like to see Wardy get a run out
Agree on this. But I dont think they should be our 2nd 11. (and since the A Team is playing at the same time they cant be). I think if we get 3-4 players form here into the squad over 12-18 months then thats great. So players should be beween 20-24.Cant believe there are realistic prosepcts above this age who havent had their chance.
What about the Hunt brothers?
Ever since the my guarantee I dont bring him up unless I am talking about Sunderland usually. If he is brought up by someone else, I pounce :)
Is this technically considered a full international? So, any player who plays gets a cap? Or is it in a whole separate category?
