The man who sold the world - Nirvana
Hurt - Johnny Cash
Knocking on Heavans door -Guns n Roses
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds: Hey Joe
Not a cover exactly, but Death In Vegas borrow the title and the bassline of The Beat's "Twist and Crawl."
Dave Edmunds:
"Girls Talk" - an Elvis Costello b-side
"I hear you knocking"
Fats Domino song I think
Both big hits in the 70s
Morrissey's cover of the Jam song 'Thats Entertainment'
Blur's cover of the Kink's 'Waterloo Sunset'
Jeff Buckley's cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah'
Loads more I can't think of at the moment
some more off the top of my head
johnny cash - personal jesus
nirvana - lake of fire
foo fighters - baker street
oasis - cum on feel the noize
manic street preachers - last christmas
alien ant farm - smooth criminal
Iron & Wine do an amazing cover of The Postal Service song Such Great Heights. It's in an ad, 02 if my memory serves me right.
Something Happens cover of "Borderline" the Madonna song.
Roxy Music's cover of " Jealous Guy"
Lulu's cover of " The Man Who Sold The World" features Bowie on sax
The Stranglers covers of " Walk On By", "96 Tears"
Oh and I once did a piano and acoustic guitar version of 2 Unlimited's "No Limits" with my buddy Kieran Gilpatrick :D
I have that single by the Stranglers CTID - b-side has George Melly singing with the Stranglers on a song called "Old Codger" - Melly makes the song absolutely filthy even though the lyrics aren't naughty but Melly could recite the rosary and make it disgusting.:D Killer bass on this song.Quote:

Elvis Costello and the Attractions " Good Year For The Roses"
Billy Connolly " D.I.V.O.R.C.E." Soft Cell " Tainted Love"
Sid Vicious and the Sex Pistols " My Way "
Sid Vicious and the Sex Pistols " Something Else"
Yes only heard "Old Codger" once. Apparently Melly always had a high regard for The Stranglers and was delighted to be asked.Quote:

Status Quo's version of John Fogerty's (ex-Creedence Clearwater Revival) "Rockin' all over the world".
The Nice's version of "America" from the movie I can't recall the name of.....the one about the New York gangs.....Leonard Bernstein song, I think.
Eric Clapton - "Cocaine" by JJ Cale
Eric Clapton - "I shot the sherrif" by Bob Marley (dunno if Marley actually wrote it but he recorded it first anyway)
"Take a little bitty piece of my heart now baby" - current version by Beverley Knight - also versions by Faith Hill and made famous by loads of singers - Janis Joplin etc.
Brendan O'Brien and the Dixies cover of "Little Arrows" by Leapy lee. LOL:D
The pistols don't play on those covers; they're from Sid's brief solo career. They split up in January of 78; those tracks were released Feb 79 and June 78 (respectively).Quote:

I heard Jack L do a cover of Kylie's Can't Get You Out Of My Head, made it sound like he was stalking some bird!!
Well they were on " The Great Rock N' Roll Swindle" Original Sound track and it says Sex Pistols on the labels of the singles. One of which I have. Steve Jones ( guitar) and Paul Jones ( Drums) play on those tracks. Johnny had left in January 1978 and Malcolm McLaren continued to get the rest of them to record as Sex Pistols while they completed the Movie.Quote:

quiet riot - cum on feel the noize, quality way way faster and catchier than the original.
metallica - whisky in the jar and tuesdays gone.
Marilyn Manson's cover of Madonna's "Like A Virgin" - hilarious
Johnny Cash's cover of U2's "One"
Velvet Revolver's cover of Pink Floyd's "Money"
One of the lads here in Limerick does a quality 5 minute version of the Home and Away theme tune aswell
I stand corrected. I wouldn't put too much stock in it being on the Swindle though--I doubt if the pistols are responsible for Malcom's "You need hands" or the French geezer's accordion version of 'Anarchy'--but I'd trust the Guiness Book. I've seen those records attributed to Sid alone (e.g.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sid_Vicious), but I would imagine that Guiness are pretty reliable on such matters.Quote:

Isn't it Ed Tudor Pole (of Ten Pole Tudor) singing on some of the Great RocknRoll Swindle?
had the LP many many years ago ....some quaint stuff ...friggin in the riggin ...who killed Bambi?
beth orthon and beck doin no expectations......
jimi hendrix hey joe and all along the watchtower
bob dylan doin the boxer....if only cause it is supposed to be about him and paul simon went to his house to play it to him as if to say "who is more talented now!" so dylan went and covered it on one of his "contractual" albums...
Eddie only sings on Who Killed Bambi? which was originally going to be the name of the Movie!Quote:

Are you a quo fan jebus!
Some very good choices there jebus.
Johnny cash-
Hurt should definitely be there though.
Oasis - Cum on Feel the Noize
Nirvana - The Man who Sold the World
I suppose Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah deserves a mention and all
