[SPOILERS] The Sopranos

The Soprano's returns to RTE 2, 9.30pm. Favourite character, without doubt, is Uncle Junior. Some excerpts:

Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: I'm like King Midas in reverse. Everything I
touch turns to sh�t.

Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri: The world really went downhill, since 9/11. You
know, Quasimodo predicted all of this.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Who did what?
Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri: You know, the middle east. The end of the world.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Nostradamus. Quasimodo's the hunchback of Notre
Dame.
Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri: Oh, right. Notredamus.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Nostradamus and Notre Dame, that's two things
different completely.
Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri: It's interesting that they'd be so similar,
though. You know, I always thought "Ok, you got the hunchback of Notre Dame.
But you also got your quarterback and your halfback of Notre Dame".
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Notre Dame's a f�cking cathedral!
Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri: Obviously, I know. I'm just saying. It's
interesting, the coincidences. What, you're gonna tell me you never pondered
that?
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: No!

Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: There's an old Italian saying: you f�ck up once,
you lose two teeth.

Corrado Erico 'Uncle Junior' Soprano: Federal marshals are so far up my �ss
I can taste Brylcreem.

Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: You're looking good. Looking better.
Corrado Erico 'Uncle Junior' Soprano: Tony, if you're gonna lie to me, tell
me there's a broad in the car waiting to tongue my balls.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Hey, You want that, it's a phone call away.

Adriana La Cerva: I love you, Chris.
Christopher Moltisanti: You better!

[Uncle Junior just told Tony he had a mentally handicapped uncle]
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: I remember my mother and my mother arguing
about... something, I don't know. I remember her talking about my father's
feeble-minded brother, but I thought she meant you.

Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Maybe I should tap into my roots, too. My
grandmother was half Indian.
Christopher Moltisanti: Get the f�ck out of here.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: No, it's true. She was in the Fakawee tribe.
Christopher Moltisanti: Oh, yeah?
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Yeah. When they used to get lost in the woods,
they stopped and said "Where the Fakawee?"

[Chris and Paulie just botched a hit on a Russian gangster, and are lost in
the woods. They call Tony, and get a bad reception]
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Listen to me, this guy was a Russian green
beret. He was in the ministry of the interior or something. He
single-handedly killed 16 Chechen rebels. Be f�cking careful.
Paulie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri: All right.
[hangs up]
Christopher Moltisanti: What did he say?
Paulie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri: He said the guy killed 16 Czechoslovakians, and
he was an interior decorator.
Christopher Moltisanti: Interior decorator? His apartment looked like sh�t.

Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: If I were you, I would seriously consider
salads!
Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri: Why won't you take a look in a mirror, you
insensitive f�ck!
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: What are you readin'?
Irina Peltsin: Chicken Soup For The Soul.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: You should try Tomato Sauce For Your �ss- that's the Italian version.

I'll accept no argument on this: The best Sopranos scene by a long shot is when Paulie whacked one of the lawncare guys on the back of the head, causing him to drop a rope that was suspending another lawncare guy, who promptly dropped to the ground. Paulie then took one of their wallets, and walked away with one of their lawnmowers. I damn near wet myself during that show.

I've been doing the same myself,tonights episode was the best hour of television i've watched in about 4 years!!

I've seen as far as the 5th episode now and its getting very interesting!

dahamsta,i wouldnt argue with you about that scene absolutely brilliant but what about later in the episode when he is explaining what happened to Tony :D

My favourite ever episode was the Paulie and Chritopher in the woods one. Way funnier than all of sitcoms best bits put together

Paulie a legend alright.

Hoping i get home in time tonight. Anyone if RTE doing a repeat duting the week???

My favourite ever Sopranos quote (and this, far better than any expert on organisational theory I have ever encountered) was from Tony Soprano on responsibility and accountability: "in this organisation, the money flows up and the sh!t flows down". Priceless. :D

Second episode last night.Bit low on action but some good acting by the family.

Liked the description of Uncle Junior "Marvin Gayeing" Tony.:D

What a series I startee watching it about 2 years ago and have finally caught up with it. I watched it all on DVD or tapes and never watched it on tv. Last night was the 1st night I haver ever watched it as it was broadcast. Some great quotes last night esp the one about Junior doing a Marvin Gaye on his nephew.

My favourite ever episode of any drama, directed by Steve Buscemi IIRC. Pure class.

Great line last night about Junior - "He Marvin Gaye'd his nephew" :D

Was disapointed in previous dream sequence episode but last nights kept me hooked.Must admit I found the hanging scene in the first episode shocking.
BTW did anybody recognise that slightly haunting song as the credits rolled last night?

When It's Cold I'd Like to Die from 1995's Everything is Wrong - probably Moby's finest and one of the best albums of the 90's IMO.

Apparently David Chase has said that the "dream sequences" are NOT actually a dream, strictly speaking, but something (somewhere?) else.... It didn't have the usual surreal bits and seemed to follow a more linear structure.

They really nail the music on that show (on top of everything else) American Girl, Smoke on the Water earlier on in the episode, even a bit of Prodigy.

I think the funniest part of the last episode was Vito speculating on the previous week's suicide:

Was magnificent last night.One of the best episodes ever .....& it ended with Pink Floyd.Paulie is an incredible character.
