i think brokeback mountain peaked a week ago, ang lee deserves this, imagine his first nomination.

Was Episode III revenge of the sith nominated in any of the main categories or is the academy still ignoring the existance of Lucasfilm

Disappointed to see Howl's Moving Castle being overlooked for a joly ol' Brit movie, but other than that few surprises. Thank God people have recognised Philip Seymour Hoffman for the genius that he is (Love Liza still ranks as his best performance in my eyes), and after the build up Crash has being getting all week I wasn't at all surprised to see it beat out Brokeback for best film, although personally Brokeback would have been my choice
I don't take much notice of the Oscars anymore. I wonder what the breakdown of movie studios is... Any chance that winners just distributed amoung the studios like the Grammys is for music...
The winner of Best live action short film, SIX SHOOTER by Martin McDonagh was on TV last night. Although its a disturbing story I really enjoyed it:)

Yea I like the way he puts that American accent on for most of his films and even in every day life and when he is doing awards speeches, apparently he's been putting it on since he was a child
I seem to remember the Oscars being a big deal years ago. Can't remember when it faded into pointlessness. Maybe when live transmission went off terrestial tv?
Not seen the Departed but surprised a remake won best 'american' film.
best film I saw at the cinema last year but never thought it was an 'oscar winner', Wahlberg has confirmed they will be making a sequel shortly. They usually go for something that aims for the heartstrings.
Pans Labyrinth is worth a look when released on DVD.

Sequel to focus on Marky Mark's character with the possibility of a prequel to complete the trilogy. Should be good watching. :)Quote:
