Simple question - how do you feel about the FAI's idea for the new league format? It's being discussed on this thread if you haven't seen it already.

Against but would probably still go to matches

In fact, I'd probably go to more, seeing as Croke Park and Landsdowne Road are easy enough to get to for me, and they would be the only stadia that will be big enough to hold the crowds that the miracle of Genesis promises:cool:
Would be 100% in favour of any package that was designed to aid and assist all 22 clubs in becoming viable entities (possibly within a legitimate time frame) and then following the implementation of this assistance etc seeing who is deemed fit to remain in the League.
I would be fundamentally opposed to this approach which will be voted on on Saturday on the grounds that they have done NOTHING to help the eL and its 22 clubs, meanwhile the people who ran these clubs and supported those teams in the meantime had to struggle on regardless. Now they are turning around to them and proposing to tell them that their work was utterly in vain, and in effect blame the people who have suffered all along at the hands of the eL and the FAI's negligance.

And on a related matter I don't believe that I will EVER truly trust the FAI after the lies and deceit that was the Irish ticket fiasco, which illustrated the amount of respect that they have for us.

What format? What have the FAI revealed? Nothing. Would the government ask you to vote yes or no in a referendum tomorrow and release the terms of the referendum months later? (cue smart remarks about Bertie ;) )
No, they wouldn't, yet this is exactly what the FAI are "asking" the clubs in Ireland to do.
I am an open minded person and I am not against change at all. But how can anyone come out in favour of something which they have not been given sufficient information about?
If I think whatever they are proposing will be good for the League, its supporters, and my club, then I will be in favour of it. If not then I won't. I can't make an informed decision on this yet, and nobody else here can either.

id still go watch but its a bad idea cos it is not the way to preserve the less supported clubs
I'm not sure, I'd like to think it over and discuss it with the relevant people.
Oh wait, I can't because dispite the fact that we've been in closed season since December and the genesis report was published in September, this has only been proposed the same week it has to be voted on.

I'm against and wouldnt go to as many matches purely for the fact that I go to almost all Mons matches, quite a few Drogs matches and any others I can take in. If this went thro I would still go support Mons playing Ballygobackwards in the cow****e league but would not pay another penny to the league.

No, but I'll keep going whenever I'm free for a game. I muast say it'll damped my enthusiasm though. I also can't say what it will do to me if I see my team lose their place over non-footballing criteria.

An invitational league with acceptance based on crowds, marketability, facilities and (to a much lesser degree) league placing and ability. No promotion from the First for a year, and even after that not unless you meet the requirements. Which you won't, because you'll have been festering in the First Division for a year. It's a league which will be run by people of the FAI's own choosing, which will mean even more closed-shop toadying, clamp-downs on fans and the likes.

What are the "other" requirements? It's the FAI that are putting out critea based on marketability and potential and regional diversity. There are not even minimum standards for clubs to achieve - only talk of rankings only partly based on finishing positions. Insist on clubs getting the appropriate licence, after that it has to be based on football. If not it is franchise football. Speaking as a fan of a club that would probably meet the infrastructure requirements and location.Quote:

I vote no but still go to matchs, lesser supported clubs like County, Limerick, Dublin City etc, could get kicked out of the league
I can see why Dublin City and UCD fans would be against it. No fans, in a city with too many clubs as it is. - I'm all for it!!! Teams like Limerick and Galway have nothing to fear due to their locations.Quote:

This is sure media speculation as no criteria even talked about so far... Only thing known that they will be some criteria in addition to league position.

No club will be selected strictly on their geographical location and this is bulls***t being spouted by UCD fans in Particular.
Galway made a conscious decision over 3 years ago on the way they were going to run the club and ground it in the community so as to ensure out=r long term sustainability otherwise we were heading for the wall.The current set up is finally functioning smoothly and the business and local community are backing us to the hilt which will be shown very shortly when we have our pre season launch. Each club has to get there own house in order and the fans like the supporters trust in Galway have to do their part if they dont they simply will not survive.

"The most revolutionary aspect of the proposal is the creation of a ten-team elite division, with two regionalised divisions operating below it.
Galway United, who expect to be one of the ten teams in the elite division, not least as Government funding will be dependant on a geographical spread of clubs, were told their strategic plan was the way forward for all clubs."
Fair play to Galway for their strategic plan and the work they have done. But would they be as confident of being admitted to the elite league if they were located somewhere between Longford and Athlone?

Monaghan United field 8 or 9 Schoolboy teams, an Under-21 team, 3 women's teams as well as a senior team. The LMC leaggue uses CHP for its Oscar Traynor Cup games and the clubhouse for its meetings, as well as supplying virtually all of the players for the Under-21 team. We could not be more rooted in the local Junior soccer scene. We are sitting on land worth a fortune and could easily sell a tract to build a stadium that would be one of the best grounds in the country. Hmm maybe we should be part of the elite league.
Show me where I told you how to vote? The question was asked as to who was voting for, and I gave an opinion. I think it's quite clear that Galway fans are one of the most pro groups. Where's your problem?Quote:

If a club who can get under 200 for games as Galway did last year - despite giving season ticket holders more value in vouchers than the value of their season ticket, effectively paying people to go to games - can get promoted off the field ahead of clubs who are outperforming them year-in-year-out - thereby decreasing the quality of the league - it'd be a disgrace.
