Absolute rubbish. If we don't qualify and Kerr gets his P45 there's not a chance that the job will be given to Roy Keane.
Highly unlikely but I wouldn't say no chance....this is the F.A.I. we're talking about after all.:eek:
Again it's unlikely, but there is precedence for this sort of thing - Rijkaard at Holland, Klinsmann and Voller at Germany, Hughes at Wales.

Senior figures at the Football Association of Ireland have identified
Roy Keane as a possible successor to Brian Kerr if the Republic
manager's contract is not renewed at the end of this World Cup campaign.
Kerr probably needs to qualify for next summer's tournament in Germany
to keep the job, although wins in the remaining qualifiers, against
Cyprus and Switzerland, followed by a narrow defeat in the play-offs to
opposition such as Spain or the Czech Republic might save him if the
team performs well.
Keane would be a popular successor in many quarters if the situation
arises, but the FAI has little or no chance of persuading him to take
the post at this stage. Keane has said that he wants to play for at
least another season and is interested in a move to Celtic. He is set to
leave Manchester United in June after 13 seasons.
Keane is close to Kerr after the manager lured him out of international
retirement and is midway through his coaching qualifications. He will
miss Ireland's final two qualifiers because of injury.
Kerr has been unable to instigate talks about a new contract and does
not enjoy the unqualified support of the FAI's chief executive John
Delaney, who had wanted Bryan Robson to succeed Mick McCarthy.
i get the funny feeling this is a kite being flown by delaney or rat boys agent.

to an extent keane is his ideal choice. based in the UK, popular with the ole ole brigade and naive enough in management to be manipulated.

Im sick to death of all this sh!te in the media about Kerr about to get sack. Qualification is still completely in our own hands, and if we get through the same eigits who are now talking as if we are looking for a new manager will be full of praise for him and booking their trips to Germany next summer.
The two articles in todays Indo about Stephen Ireland are a classic example of this. Taking a good news story about a young Irish lad doing well and turning it around into a critism of Kerr and how Ireland will never play for his country under Kerr according to a "family friend." :rolleyes:
If this family friend really exists and is sure he knows what hes talking about why not put his name to the quotes????
We have two huge games coming up in the next 8 days and I dont understand why everyone is slating Kerr when we need to be getting behind the team. The players will pick up on this negative attitude towards the manager which will cause attitude problems and deepen any existing issues which any players may presently have with him.
The time to take stock on Kerr is after the qualification series is over. Not now. :mad: :mad:
Im sick to the back teeth of reading some of this anti Kerr stuff. R.KEane has ZERO experience at management and there isnt a chance in hell of him taking over IReland.
All this speculation HAS TO STOP !!! We have two very important games coming up and we have to win both. The papers seem to be more focused on the era after Kerr than beating Cyprus and Switzerland.

yep .. Keane gets probably more in a week at Man U than what Kerr gets in a year for the Irish job. Money wise he would be better off by taking a pay cheque from Celtic or wherever for the last two years of his career. Its a complete non-starter of a story. Even as player manager, he's hardly going to want to take all that on with a young family.Quote:

There is no way that Keane would take the job now. He's a pretty shrewd operator and would know that he'd be setting himself up for a major fall.

Roy Keane is set to rebuff approaches to make him the manager of the Republic of Ireland if Brian Kerr is sacked next week.
Kerr will lose his job should Ireland not win their final two group matches - away to Cyprus and home to Switzerland - and fail to make the play-offs for next year's World Cup.
Senior figures in the Football Association of Ireland have discussed appointing Keane as Kerr's replacement. However, sources close to the 34-year-old are adamant he is determined to continue playing for at least one more season after this term. They say he would certainly not accept the post now, even if it was offered on a part-time or player-manager basis.
Last week, Keane revealed he did not expect to be given another contract by Manchester United when his present deal expires next summer and that he would not play for another Premiership club. It had been widely accepted that this meant he would seek a move to Celtic.
Interestingly, sources last night said Keane would prefer a move away from the British Isles, possibly to France or the Netherlands, with a one or two-year deal at an established club to learn the ropes of coaching in another environment. Keane believes this would allow him to progress with less of the spotlight than he would endure in Glasgow.
Keane would certainly like to take charge of Ireland - but not, it appears, right now. He knows the pressure on Kerr's successor would be great - nothing short of qualification for a major tournament is acceptable - and is concerned that the time elapsed between his walkout at the last World Cup and his re-emergence into the fold is not enough.
Ironically, it was Kerr who brought back Keane in what was an astonishing coup for the manager who succeeded Mick McCarthy, but who has been under mounting pressure over Ireland's faltering campaign. It has not helped his cause that most of the senior officials who appointed him have moved on and he has few allies in the FAI - Kerr is also seen as a conservative character who lacks inspiration and avoids confrontation.
If Kerr does go and Keane does not accept the job, Ireland will still want a "big name". A former favoured candidate of the new regime was Bryan Robson, the West Brom manager.

I'm going to be really pedantic and ask why would the official governing body of soccer in Northern Ireland be seeking Roy to replace Brian Kerr? That source is full of crap and all this talk before a huge week for Irish football is nothing short of disgraceful. It seems there is an organised campaign trying their best to undermine Kerr and hoping that we don't qualify so he'll be forced out, talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. It would be a real shame to see two good managers (my opinion don't attack me for it) hounded out of the Irish job in less than three years.Quote:

I think there could be some truth in this. Delaney did not vote for Kerr originally & he is superficial enough to pander to public opinion. His role in ousting Bernard O'Byrne & then Rooney show that he courts public approval like no other inside FAI HQ.
He also ousted Kevin Fahy who was the other vote in favour of Brian kerr

I can't believe you would say something like that. If Kerr has a speech impediment because he has a common Dublin accent, I fear what people think of me. It must be the only country where you have to change your accent to get more respect.Quote:

I can actually see Keane going to manage Notts Forest at some stage in the near future,the Ireland job or the Man utd job are way out of his depth at this stage.
