Slightly disappointing group....:(
I was hoping for Roma :p
Slavia, PAOK, Auxerre all eminently beatable. Hamburg got absolutely battered by Valencia in their last InterToto game, but somehow held out.
Somewhat tragic to reflect that Everton probably constitute a more enticing draw than Hamburg.
I don't know about that. We are rally up against it with any of those teams.Quote:

Couldn't care less how big a draw a team is, just means the cross will sell out at €30+ rather than €20. Would prefer a real chance of progressing over a glamourous defeat. Group stages would mean a helluva lot more to the club than one bumper gate.Quote:

That is one thing has to change in this country... supporting foreign teams when they play irish opposition. Its a fúcking disgrace IMO. I follow teams in different leagues but if they were playing any irish team I would support the irish team.
I agree but the reason I would like Everton is that they are the most high profile team in that group (maybe Auxerre as well). And I would give City as much a chance against Everton as any other team in there. They are all quality teams and our chances of progressing doesn't depend on who we are drawn against. Each team is just as tough as the next.Quote:

But if we drew Everton, we could tell them to stick their British Football up there a$$e$ and slag Zinedine Kilbane for being English and playing for Ireland. Would love to see Georgie run rings around him and maybe give Brian Kerr a wake up call.
All valid points there.
A good showing against Everton (even beating them at home) would really give a big boost for the Eircom league from the general public's point of view.
Kerr said he wouldnt pick players until they are in the Champions League group stages and playing regularly there. But if Cork made the group stages then Kerr would have to take a look at some of the players, especailly O callaghan
we cpuld get past auxerre.....they got beaten 7-0 last week in the leauge.....their not a patch of the team they used to be-theyve just signed berson from villa on loan and if im not mistaken he played at the cross last tear for nantes
everton would be a class draw,i reckon a rendition of 'you scouse *******s' would be in order!
hamburg would be tuff-they just recently sighned rafael van der vaart from ajax
whoever it is city must attack with all guns blazin
bring on europe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hamburg.
1st leg at home cos mean I can probably make the way leg then.
I don't think we need the hassle with local Everton supporters. However we'd probably play much better football than them & show up the EPL.
Potential of good tv money from Germans too.
I really don't care what happens as we've exceeded expectations. Getting at least a draw in 1 game would be grat for coefficients & would mean City seeded in 1st qualifyiunbg rounds for next 5 years.
Draw LIVE on Eurosport, Sky Sports News and UEFA.com
I think we've matched our expectations this year.Quote:

Think the Germans are good for TV money but there's no doubt the money from England could be good too. At the end of the day, we are entitled to seek financial reward at this stage.
I reckon everton would be a handy draw in terms of winning the tie. They are the least technical team compared to the others. Id fancy georgie and fenn against phil neville too. Murray against drunken duncan would be a top battle.
Prague are very technical and rafael van der vaart plays for hamburg now. The greeks i guess would be the next 'soft touch' after Everton cos greeks travel badly.
This is where my knowledge of French football comes in handy.....
Auxerre lost their last game 7-0 away to Lens. Their manager is Jacques Santini, ex-France and Spurs coach. Their previous manager, Guy Roux, had been in charge for 43 years and he only left in the summer!! So I think the team are a bit shook up since he left.
Are they the same PAOK that beat Arsenal 2-1 on aggregate in the first round of the 1997/98 UEFA Cup?Quote:

Hamburg - German TV money but a strong side
Everton - English TV Money and a team we'd 'know', we'd have a crack off them but having to deal with Everton Irish at the cross
PAOK - A pain in the whole to get to, won't give us TV money, won't be a name the general public will reognise, though not in their season yet anyone bar this shower.
Auxerre - French TV Money, cheap to get to, I think we'd have a shot (no better than Nantes anyway)
Prague - the 'fun' trip but from TV, full house, getting through point of view, difficult
They play in Thessaloniki which is in Northern Greece on the Aegean seas.Quote:

After thinking about it, Hamburg or Auxerre would be the best draws for us.
We would have a shot at getting a result, good TV money, easy to get to both. A step up in class again, but we could be confident of doing ourselves proud.
Don't want the hassle of local "Evertonians" disgracing our city,
Greeks have the highest rating, Slavia are a class act.

Good chance! :)
I think they finished either 2nd or 3rd in the Czech Republic last year. They went out of the CL qualifiers mid-week. That's all I know bout them.
I don't know lads. Its going to be tough. I know Sparta Prague have made the CL group stages before but what about Slavia. I must research their Euro record. It's going to be tough going by their coefficient.
Could be a lot worse!Quote:

AFAIK they are a homeless club in dire financial trouble - who lodged a complaint with uefa cause they lost their seeding in the cl qualifiers to make room for Liverpool.....
Tricky tie i reckon. Skillfull team. Hopefull they'll underestimate us though. Czech airlines fly to prague from cork. Praszky beer are giving away free flights too if you buy a six pack down the offy. Next door offys anyway. Have to do a bloody tiebreaker though.
Home and away losses against a Belgian team. All the draws are tough but football wise this one's the best
Slavia Prague (Cze) V Cork City
Dinamo Bucharest (Hun) V Everton
Hibernian V Dnipro (Ukr)
Middlesborough V Xanthi (Gre)
Bolton V Lokomotiv Plovdiv (Bul)
Are we away first? On the 15th?
yup - away 15th

Cork City to play Slavia Prague
Damien Richardson's Cork City have drawn Czech side Slavia Prague in the UEFA Cup first round in today’s draw in Monaco.
City will play the away leg first on September 15 before taking the Czech’s back to Turner’s Cross on September 29.

The Slavia home leg must be played during daylight hours as the floodlights in the cross arent up to 1st round proper standards
I hate daytime games tbh, theres always a more subdued atmosphere no matter how big a game it is,hands up those who've been to a derry noon kick-off on a sunday :D
I think its time we bucked the trend with this 1
