I hope the nordies don't complain, Ireland recovered Duffy McClean Wilson Gibson O'Kane , Sykes now this guy. Imagine with some revisionism Eire had got Mal Donaghy Martin ONeill Neil Lennon Pat Jennings and a few more caths
Derek Dougan comes to mind.
Always loved his moustache and a good player too! It seems according to the Indo that Mohan has felt it necessary to defend calling up Moore.
FAI broke no rules to get Belfast-born teenager Seán Moore – Republic’s U-19 boss Tom Mohan - Independent.ie
Callum Marshall rumoured to be switching to us too. A West Ham U18 PL player with 13 in 12.
Form an orderly line lads.
some random lad on twitter who has "scout" in his bio
He has had some info about west ham before. Wait and see
If I was the lad I'd stick where I am for the time being if he does have interest in switching. Yeah he's had a great start to life in England but it's at U18s level and he's gonna be overage for the U19s this summer so will be playing U21s. No point switching now and making it harder for yourself to switch back if things don't work out for you.
Marshall is from a unionist background, no? It would be great to see NI progressing to the point that players from the north from that background would have a preference to play for us, and I think they'd be widely welcomed into our setup. But it seems very unlikely at this point.
Maybe there's more to it, he may have a mixed heritage or something. But there's nothing about his background, schooling, NI clubs etc. that suggests he'd be keen to switch to us.
Moore turned down a meeting with Michael O'Neill according to Steven Beacom who first wrote about the lads switching us.
Spared himself a couple hours of bull**** there anyway.
I wonder might Christopher Atherton be another that switches across to us once he leaves NI. He made his Irish League debut at a frankly ridiculous 13 years of age. He's currently in the NI youth setup but apparently we have been tracking him closely. Again, like Moore, the sensible/cynical move would probably be for him to switch to us before he plays competitively for the north. That way he remains eligible for them as a fallback. Might be one for the Under 17s in a year or two.
Thanks for that. The interview with his dad on the athletic is very good. He was down in Dublin at assessment days with the Fai in 2021 when he was maybe 12 or 13 so just shows the fai do put in work with northern players to have them involved Ed which is great. Catholic family celtic fan played gaelic up to last summer and grandad former Gaelic and soccer star
i suspect that is BS. The FAI run these "development squads" that are basically kids that werent good enough through a range of ages to be picked up by a LOI academy and generally its the FAI coaches pals and contacts kids as everyone knows none of them are good enough and thus no one really cares but its enough to tick a box and pretend that the FAI coaches are doing something.
Interesting stuff
Northern Ireland’s gain may turn out to be the Republic’s loss. Christopher, who has an Irish passport, was on the pathway to represent the Republic of Ireland and impressed during Dublin trials in 2021, but the Northern Irish FA’s head of elite youth performance, Andy Waterworth, intervened and persuaded Stephen to bring Christopher to them.
Stephen speaks glowingly of Waterworth and his staff, who he says have helped develop Christopher at training in Belfast over the past year.

Definitely assessment training sessions. We'd a couple of lads that were called up to them about ten years ago. As exgrad said they were getting a closer look at lads for the u15s squad.
