Luton??? Big Mick was on loan at Millwall from Lyon at the end of the 89/90 season, he signed full time for Millwall after the season ended. He never played for Luton as far as I know. Barnsley, Man City, Celtic, Lyon & Millwall were his clubs.
Which is those players did not play in Italia 90?
Ronnie Whelan didn't get his game if I recall. Damn shame too. John Sheridan should also have been on the pitch at some point.
I am sure Ronnie Whelan came on for about 10 minutes, cant remember which game.
Dont think Bernie Slaven played any part.
Whelan played a few minutes late in the last game against Italy.

I was thinking maybe Roy Keane but Stan would have been a lot younger.

Looking around google it looks like Keane was younger. Debuted about 3 months shy of 20 whereas Stan was about the same on the older side.
Just had a quick check on Gary Kelly. He was born on 09/07/74 so he was 19 when he was first capped. As far as I remember he got his first cap 2 or 3 months before USA '94 so it looks like it's a toss up between himself and Stan.

I don't think he really delivered on his promise to be honest. I remember a friendly versus holland just before the WC in 1994 and he had a great game against Overmars but his performances waned a bit as time went by, and I'm not just talking about towards the end of his intl. career. The defensive side of his game was generally pretty decent but I always thought that with his pace he could do a bit more in attack. Also his passing was not that great. As strange as it sounds he was one of those footballers that was better when he did not have the ball, a bit like Terry Phelan. It was always great to see Terry going flying up the wing outside Staunton before Stan would release the ball to him. The only problem was that when Terry got the ball he hadn't a clue what to do with it.
Didn't Kelly score in the friendly against (then world champions) Germany prior to USA '92, only had about 3 or 4 caps at that point? Cracker of a goal too.
What age was Irwin when he made his debut?
Yeah Kelly Scored against Germany in a friendly alright. His shot took a deflection off a defenders leg and looped over the goalies head. Strangely enough his only other intl. goal (V. Cyprus) was nearly the exact same. As for Dennis, I'm not sure about that one but as far as I remember he got capped in one of our first games after Italia 90.Quote:

I think Irwin was a late bloomer. The first time I saw him was in an U23 International against Norn Iron at Dalyer. He was still at Oldham at the time. He scored a beauty in a 3-0 win.

Niall Quinn was 19 in 1986 when he was capped by Charlton against Iceland.
I think the answer to this might be a player that not many people remember. He was Mark Kelly who played for Portsmouth and who made his debut against Yugoslavia in Dublin in April 1988. He played 4 times in total, his last cap being against Morocco in 1990. When he got his first cap he was 18 and 156 days.Quote:
