Injured for much of the 2020/21 season, Derby Co. defender Eiran Cashin makes his debut for the Rams today v Peterborough.
Makes his first start in the league today on his fifth league appearance for Derby.
Did well by all accounts. 3 young irish starters for derby, a late 1-0 win to edge closer to safety. Must be a great atmosphere for these young lads at the moment.
He has a great video on his twitter 2 years ago during the first lock down of him training/ messing around in his front garden in his ireland jersey
Cashin MOTM for Derby by all accounts. Sounds solid and positionally strong defensively, but with a nice passing range - which is a definitely a more modern attribute to our Centre Backs.
Think we can now field a team of Centre Half’s with Collins, O’Shea, Omobamidele, McGuinness, Dunne and now Cashin coming through.
Noticed that Ebolese played right wing. Could be a good option with his pace.

I think Delap was coaching at Derby at one point, might explain how they know each other?
Think he did plus his young lad came through the Derby underage before moving to City.
What height do folks think he is? He looks short to me - hit it could just be his general stocky appearance. A Google search says 1.8m (5’ 11”), 1.84 and 1.87 (6’ 1.5”) with most of the search returns suggesting the 1.87. He does not look like a 6 footer to me. I’d say the 5’ 10”/11” range is probably more accurate. Thoughts? Does that make him too short to make it as a cb at the highest levels? (no pun intended!)
Looks about 5'11/6ft-ish to me.
Whether that will have a detrimental impact on on his career, I'm not too sure. Carragher was a similar height. Cannavaro and Baresi were both about 5'9, weren't they? And they didn't do too badly.
I think his lack of inches matters less in the context of a back three, which is how we play.
Interestingly he's left-footer, which is useful in terms of balance both in and out of possession. Generally a left-footed centre-back is going to be a lot more comfortable when dragged into a leftback area than a right footer.
He looks like Aaron Connolly. the face the heavy eyebrows , skin, nose, cheeks !!!! Before he went full Marilyn Monroe!!!
This was one of the things that Crawford mentioned in the podcast about how Cashin is a left sided CB and something which we lack. Of the lads that have been in the senior squad only Ciaran Clark stands out with everyone else being right footed. From the others Sean McLoughlin is the only one I can think of that's a left footed CB.
I think Egan is left footed
Egan is right footed.
We're a bit short and left-footed defenders in general at the moment really.
Can we not get left footed centre backs from the North ?
Cashin wins Derby Co. Young Player of the Season award.
Cashin the subject of interest by Championship clubs, including Norwich, according to Darren Witcoop (The Mirror).
Quite a jump
I’m really surprised at that, if true. He’s never really impressed me anytime I’ve watched him. Short for a CB, stocky and a bit of a poor touch. But he’s been rated highly across the water for a while so what the f do I know.
I agree with you Stu, he did break into the Derby team very young and there does seem to be an old fashioned toughness about him, but I have always thought that he was too small and not quick enough to make up for it. I would trust Brightons scouts more than my opinion though!
Any half decent young centre back will command attention these days, there's a general shortage of good ones out there.
Not in terms of Irish ones obviously, we're producing them at the rate the Georgians produce prop forwards because the game continues to be coached slightly differently here, but there's an overall shortage on a wider scale.
Any of them that can pass reliably under pressure are considered interesting, even if there are defensive frailties. Is he good on the ball?
I think he's decent on the ball. Not the tallest and not the quickest would be his main limitations. Being left footed will help him also.
Ah, a left footer.
We'll see what foot he kicks with internationally if he gets this move & England start winking at him Seanie, one Irish born grandparent & his call up held up by a family holiday delaying the paperwork, hmmmm. They might only have to wink once for him to twinkle toe it across the floor ha.
He's overage for Under 21 football so that's almost certainly the end of any interest from England I'd say.
With the rumours about Omobamidele going to Forest and Cashin replacing him at Norwich - he may have been caught between two stools and time ran out.
Seems the only ones linking him to Norwich were fans on twitter. They signed Danny Batth from Sunderland.
Brighton were prepared to pay a fee of around £4m for Cashin but ran out of time to get the deal over the line before the window shut at 11pm....."He didn't travel with the (Derby) team because if he had to do a medical it didn't make any logical sense. In the end when it failed, and it failed for different reasons above my (Warne's) paygrade, he drove over to the hotel and got here at 2am.......He's a good kid, he wanted to play. He's not sulking and he appreciates the fact both clubs were fighting for themselves."
Brighton have been monitoring Cashin for a while and are expected to bid again in January.
