Looked okay last year for the 17s. He was ahead of Joe Hodge in the couple of games I saw and was overshadowed. Against Belgium, we coped quite okay but Hodge was class behind him.
As an aside, Jeremy Doku played on the left wing for Belgium the same night. He scored his first senior international goal against Iceland last night. Looked an awesome talent that night so not particularly surprised.
Struggled more than I expected for the 17s given the reputation he had for United at U18 level. You never really know, there could have been niggles or something. Hodge was without doubt our best player. Keogh had a decent tournament playing alongside him in the centre. Even the young Pats lad, Brandon Holt (I think) was more impactful coming off the bench than McCann.Quote:

Has signed for Rangers… presumably Rangers B which will mean Scottish Lowland League football.
the article on Rangers' website makes no mention of his international allegiance. Odd, that.
Gerrard confirms they've signed him for the B team. Still, I can't see them paying £700k for a lad they don't see first team potential in. Or maybe my sense of transfer values is out of date.Quote:

Yeah obviously a horrible sporting institution whose entire 9 year history is steeped in explicit anti Irish racism but in terms of the thread I suppose the main concern is the level he will now be playing at similarly to the seemingly age old issue we have had with young players heading to Celtic.Quote:

He definitely played under 17 and under 18 in 2019. As we know, the pandemic put paid to a lot of youth football in 2020 and 2021 and I'm not sure if he was underage for the 19s in 2021 (probably not) and was well down the pecking order for the 21s games that did take place.Quote:

That was the original plan with Rice's thread, but a few people asked for it to be moved, so it was moved before it got out of control

You win some, you lose some I guess… if 2000 and 2001 wasn’t so stacked with midfielders, there’s probably 12 ahead of him, from this campaign (Coventry, Kilkenny, Johansson, Connell, Devoy, Tierney, Noss, Watson, Kavanagh, Smallbone, Grant, Hondermarck).
We win more than we lose. Best of luck to him. If he turns out to be brilliant we might have regrets down the line but we have had more than our fair share coming in the other direction.
He'd definitely have been involved in the next U21s, but don't think he's going to be one we'll regret switched. Probably now sees NI as the easier route to senior international football.
Similar you wonder if McGuinness has been approached by NI yet. He'd go straight into their senior squad. His father is from Derry so could be less chance of him choosing NI.
