We have it up front now with 4 guys chasing 2 places.
We have it in midfield with some very strong replacements (and some excellent young players knocking on the door).
A really good reserve 'keeper.
All we need now is some others challenging for the center of defence (I think it's gonna be a while before Derek is any where near match fit to be the one).
Reckon Rico is watching this in relation to his first purchase.

Was watching Uruguay and Brazil on Bravo last night and heard the most stupid comment from any commetator ever (he made Canning, Hamilton et al sound quiet simply intelligent).
At one stage in the game he started having a go at Ronaldo and how he was amazed at all the hype surrounding him and I swear, this is what he said....
...."I know he's scored 57 goals in 87 internationals (just 11 short of Pele's record), but he does nothing during the games, and is quiet simply a liability to the team"......
I jest not.
So when talking about Behan I think we should appreciate what we have and that is a smashing young lad, who loves playing for City, is scoring for fun at the moment, is bubbling with confidence so let's not destroy it by expecting too much and deflating the guy.
He's there to score goals - which he is doing.
Fair play to the lad.
I remember one Colin P O'Brien going through a rich vein of form for city and scoring some good goals. Where is he now? If you don't mind i'll hold judgement for now. BTW you can't compare JOF to Behan. Flynn is head and shoulders above him and has just been unlucky with injuries.
skill wise...yesQuote:

That's a great quality in a forward.
He's still learning.
We'd need to start getting goals from somewhere else though.
It's never good to depend on one player.
Great start to the season and great support as always.

Behan's been great but he's still young and needs experience, but as you said corner, as long as he's scoring he'll stay in the team
I didn't think so because I expected Rico to go with Fenn and Doyler but I'm not surprised that Behan has taken his chance and shined.Quote:

Behan started ONE game last season- he scored in that. This season he's scored every time he's started too. Can't say fairer than that. The problem last season was that Dolan was only giving him 2 or 3 minute run outs at the end of every game. So while he did play, he never really had a chance to get a run in the team- didn't appear to do his confidence any good. Now, not only is he scoring goals, but IMO his all round play is improving game by game. He really looks confident now and like he's enjoying his football, and as long as he keeps scoring and playing this well, he deserves to stay in the team. Maybe the idiots who are giving him abuse can shut up too

come over to the corner and u'll hear a lot of it and worse :DQuote:

So he is not playing as well as he is able, and I have said in other threads that he has to be dropped. Mick Devine clearly heard it, I reckon Dan heard the shouts too (not all from Eric) and while I agree it doesn't help the situation, it's hard to hold your tongue when he sliced the ball across his own penalty area into the path of an unmarked attacker.
what was he doing listening...he should be concentrating on the gameQuote:

It was exactly as you said, I was just pointing out that he had a poor game. For the record I didn't shout any abuse at any City player, I swore under my breath but I agree that getting on his back won't help. I'd sooner cheer what he did well and hope it helps his confidence.Quote:

He does need a serious kick up the h*le, and maybe Hilly will be the one to sort him out. Until then, or until we actually have someone to take his place, he will be in the team, and we should try to praise him for what he does right, and not shatter his confidence even more by booing and calling for him to be re-placed.

While I dont think Dan has been playing that badly I do think thecorner has a very good point.Quote:

I realise it's only a matter of time that he costs us, but the point I'm making is that we have NOBODY else to take his place at the moment, and abusing him is only going to makie the situation worse for him.Quote:

We shouldn't be getting on the backs of the players.
Maybe he's just a bit slow getting back to full fitness.
IMO it's purely a confidence thing, there were times in Longford when he was scared to commit for putting a foot wrong, and his distribution when he was under no pressure was poor. I think the captaincy weighs even heavier on him when he's playing badly too.
At the same time, on other occasions when he had to put his body in the way, make a hard tackle, he did it. His instincts are still there, he's taking up good positions (in fairness, how many teams have had good chances in the area this season while he's been on the field) but it's the confidence that's shot.
Which for me means, get behind him, it's not that he's actually a bad player, he's a good player who's going through a bad spell.
As has been said, we're now unbeaten in something like eighteen games in all competitions, with the joint meanest defence last season and only one goal conceeded this season (only Derry are better, having played a game less), so we know that he's basically solid.
You have a point. We should give the guy a bit of time to come right. I really hope that it comes together for him soon, though.Quote:
