Only a point behind them and nearly ten weeks in, a game for position :)
Curran out best we can hope for is 0-0 imo.
Attendance 819.
That's awful. Back to the Jackman Park crowd.
And that's were it will stay with the crap football on show Taylor on borrowed time club will start to lose money on attendances people will not spend hard earned money to watch that.
The quality is, but we have been terribly poor at times. We'll always have the hardcore group of those who were there at Hogan Park, Jackman Park, but we'll never attract new fans with the prices, the general play and with how poor the advertising is.
I think it will be a huge regret for Taylor that we didn't go and get at least one player who could have attracted some crowds in. (Billy Dennehy is one incase anyone asks who)
The game tonight wasn't actually that poor of a performance, but when we come up against teams like Sligo, you can see we're 3 or 4 players away from beating them. And, as always, injuries have played a part again.
I'd say advertising and performances are the main problem. Don't think price is really an issue.
A few were saying it at the start of the season, it's fine not being able to sign players cause of a cut budget but it's a slippery slope in the sense that if the quality isn't brought in and the product on the pitch is poor then the crowds will drop and before you know it it is hard to sustain even the squad at a reduced budget.
Didn't expect anything from the game once the team selection was in. Missing at least 4 first teamers and we all know we don't have the depth to cope. Despite all that it was frustrating because we gifted them that early goal but managed to hang in until the end and could have gotten a point still. Shocker from the ref for the 2nd on 89 mins when we might have been pressing for an equaliser.
Drops Prince after he had a great performance against Derry continues with this awful style. There is definitely room for a lot better performances with what we have there its his awful awful style thats the problem.
Very disappointing performance tonight, had enough possession but just not able to do anything with it, Sligo were ok, not brilliant, any of the chances they had first half were from our mistakes.
There's nothing or no-one to get excited about with this current Limk team. We're awful to watch, same as last season only for some reason it was constantly reported that we played good football when we didn't, just Taylor talkin out of his ass & the media swallowing it. Oji is our only player from tonights 11 that resembled a premier division player. Is it time for Taylor to move on?
Would another manager get anything better out of this group? I'm not expecting us to get into the top 4/5 but a bit of excitement wouldn't go amiss now & then.
Who would you bring in?
It's starting to annoy me listening to him going on about "we'll go pass the ball, we'll get it down and play, a big pitch will suit us"
The other thing is, with the money he is rumoured to be on, we probably couldn't afford to give him a lump sum. Still too early in the season for all that talk anyway.
Also, any chance we can have a look at McManus from the start? And I was just as baffled about Prince. Rainsford must have been unbelievable in training to get in ahead of him. We'll be missing Williams and Gaffney for the Bray game.
I don't know who I would bring in tbh I just think a different style would suit us better and it is clear he will never change his because he probably doesn't know how. I'm not asking for him to be sacked just yet just that I do think other managers would do a better job, I said at the time we got him we should have gotten Kenny who was in for the job and I think we messed up there. That is pure rubbish he either thinks others are blind or he is we never even try to play like that really. We are so so dull..
Rainsford I hate to say it is very poor I have no idea what he is supposed to add. Prince was probably our best player in Derry too he had a great game we would have won that game if he stayed on im convinced. If we don't beat Bray then we could go a long time before our next win.
Another awful home performance. You'll see the crowds steady off at around the 800 mark from now on. Anyone i brought with me this season that was not a regular never wanted to come back, always thought we were terrible to watch and i cant blame them. Team selection tonight was a baffler with Rainsford starting again? Sorry to say but the lad is no where near ready for PL. Even Ross when he came on added pace which was much lacking. Rory is not a CF but plays very well out wide. Surely Tam is fitter than 30min at this stage! The money spent on the trip to Spain looks like an awful waste when it could have gone towards a really good striker. Jason was very good tonight and i think Tracy in front of the back 4 did well. Goals are going to be a major problem for us this season. We have no one that will hit double figures, so unless the purse strings are loosened to bring in a good striker(that can play 90min) we are going to be bottom feeders this season. I really fear for the 3 home games in a row in May.
The Football we're being served up since Taylor took over has been ****-poor from the very beginning. He talks a good game but anyone that has seen us play knows that the man is talking out through his a**e. God forgive me for saying this but Scully was like a breath of fresh air compared to this guy. I think he's the only person on the planet that believes the way we are playing is the way to play. We look like we can't buy a goal let alone score one and it's only a matter of time before we're on the receiving end of a right hiding. Most of the young guys are not up to PD yet and I doubt that most of them ever will be. Lucky for us that Athlone look doomed, it's between ourselves and U.C.D to stay up I.M.O!!!
Ah lads calm down, one 3-0 loss and we want a new manager, even Scully......we are nowhere near that. Would have been great to see Tam, Mann and Prince start but maybe they were not able to this week. To be fair to Taylor everyone was tipping a Sligo win, a 0-0 would have been a good result for us. The team that started was fairly defensive and might have been a best bet to keep them scoreless for most of the game (injuries aside). It almost worked as well keeping them scoreless except for a terrible mistake by one of our experienced players on 3 minutes which no manager can legislate for. The criticism i would have is we could have changed it a little earlier, maybe making a change at halftime.
I am not sure another manager would get more from this squad. We do not have a PL calibre squad when we are not all fit.
worrying thing for me is we are weaker this year than last year no progress being made squad is weak and still can't buy a goal and a manager that can't or won't tell the truth about his philosophy because it ain't open attractive football there is no shape to it and no penetration we must be a dream to play against for any decent side in the league.. thank god for athlone as they are a shambles otherwise we look like the bottom of the pile at the moment...
Yeah it almost worked for 3 minutes. We have Plan A and if Plan A doesn't work we stick to Plan A. Our midfield creates next to nothing - not that it matters much because there's no one up front to put the ball in the net. We rely on the defence to keep it tight in the hope of nicking a goal from a set-piece/mistake. People(myself included) have used the reduced budget as an excuse, but is it really? I mean how much of our budget goes on the English/Scottish contingent.are I have no problem with Curran/Oji but you can hardly call Galbraith/Williams/Nzuzi/McManus world beaters. Personally I think their wages would have been better served on some experienced heads that know what the league is about!
The football we played in the opening half of last season was immeasurably better than anythin we d seen over the last five or six years, anyone saying otherwise is being disingenuous. As the squads gotten worse so has the football.
Im maybe giving Taylor too much credit when I say that maybe his spoofing (and it is spoofing at this stage) about good football is coming from the clubs pr department.
Im only inclined to give Taylor some benefit of the doubt there because iv a degree of sympathy for him. The job hes doing at the moment is not the job he signed up for.
On the point above about the uk lads Galbraith is on a two year deal, Mcmanus knows the league and actually isnt bad, Craig Curran, despite being a Paddy Doyle (remember him?! :-P) level finisher, is crucial to how we play, Sam Oji, despite sometimes (as seen occasionally last night) struggling against pace, is arguably one of the best defenders in the league and maybe our only player that you could make a case for getting his game with any other side. Id say nzuzi isnt on much (open to correctipn) and williams id be maybe give but you can count the good loi left fulls on the fingers of one hand and as a result all would want a nice whack themselves.
Tje budget was cut at the start of the year, anyone listening tp the noises out of pos saw it coming a mile off. The boards decided.to go one way instead of another by the looks of things. In fairness to Taylor thats not his fault. We're unbeaten against the rubbish around us.
Fact of the matter.is the Bray away game in a couple of weeks is a.bigger game for us this year.than the likes of your Sligos at home.
I'd agree with Nzuzi and Williams but Galbraith is decent and it's too early to comment on McManus. It's unrealistic to expect this Limerick squad to compete with the likes of Sligo. They have been one of the best in the country for the last 4/5 years and could go all the way this season. Attendance very poor I thought, only 819 against one of the best teams in the league. Good vocal support from those that were thereQuote:
I mean how much of our budget goes on the English/Scottish contingent.are I have no problem with Curran/Oji but you can hardly call Galbraith/Williams/Nzuzi/McManus world beaters.
Not a single person has said they wanted him gone based on this one result not one. The style of play is terrible and it has been all season. How many games this year has it been said we played well in? Even the games we won we haven't played well at all.
No-one expects to be near the top of the league no-one is expecting to beat these kinds of teams but a bit of effort and maybe a bit of good play at some stage in the season would be nice. Not a single game we have played this year could be described as a good game from what I have seen and a lot of that is down to our terrible tactics. Do we have a great squad no do we have a worse squad than the likes of Bray and Drogheda no but they can manage far better performances than us.
I don't want Taylor sacked yet but he has shown absolutely nothing. I thought last year Malky Thomson was the brains and I think I'm being proved right.
Limerick are playing some of the worst football i ve ever seen at any level and I wont be going there again. Absolute rubbish tactics, not once have i seen em this year get the ball down and cut any team open and even create a chance. Crosses and long throws is the best chance of a goal.
the result or performance should not be that big a surprise,it could have been worse as it seemed sligo were in 2nd gear all game bar a few spells.fact is we have lost a few seasoned players from last season and those brought in bar duggan are not up to that standard, plus taylors style of play is easily countered and we are playing that style with poorer quality players.references to scully and malky are interesting...scully had NO style whatsoever and if malky was last years brains it does say much for them as with those seasoned players it was only marginally better.theres a bigger picture that does not look well at the moment and the tell tell signs started at preseason,,reduced budget...preseason injuries despite all our backroom staff...one major signing who has,n kicked a ball.a commerial dept doing shag all...need i go on,,
Did anyone listen to Taylor this morning on live95fm 😂😂 it was comical say we never deserved to lose by 3 that Even there manager said so also said we had them under pressure 2nd half also sligo manager said so aswell not forgetting his weekly blame the ref rant.
Go away with him out and out bluffer comes out with some serious bull.
It's just deflecting blame.
I would think he is under a small bit of pressure purely because of the attendance alone. We got a deal on Thomond this year from what I was told. But having 800 there would barely cover the Thomond staffs' wages. If it continued like that, and all signs look like it will, then our 'deal' won't be as comfortable for us.
It's a very slow process trying to bring crowds back.
Thomas72, i listened to him alright on the local this morning & said the same, talkin out of his arse, i understand he's under pressure but call a spade a spade. forget the result its the performance thats the issue & it isn't a once off, from the second third of last season til now its been dire, but in saying that i can only comment on home games.
That was the worst i've seen in a long while last night & agree with Da Bishop as well, Sligo weren't excellent but played in 2nd gear but all looked comfortable on the ball instead of awkward & tense like our lads.
Judging by the reaction of people leaving last night they've had enough & i think we'll be lucky to hit 600 attendance for the rest of the season
sligo are quality man for man you can't compare the 2 sides but what's alarming is the 2 players who looked like they cared the most and put in a good shift wer hughes and duggan two local boys and that is no fluke is it?? Taylor arrogantly dismissed the local talent we have in abundance at least clarke waters colbert tierney would put in a shift for you.. does anyone think that tierney and waters wouldn't be as effective as the two young lads mcgrath and rainsford or pat mullins couldn't be better than nzuzi at full back on Friday nights performance?? he was pulling out of tackles.. it's debatable as to wether the local boys are up to it but if they don't get a chance we will never know and at least it would draw an intrest from the local junior soccer supporters and looking at hughes who is clearly proud to pull on the shirt I think the rest could excell given the chance.. also they wouldn't be looking for crazy money.. first it was scully now it's Taylor what is it with diffrent accents that they can wrap the powers that be around their fingers there must be someone closer to home that can try get the best out of the situation because from where I'm standing Taylor brings nothing to the table except excuse after excuse and thinks the fans are stupid when they are not..
This is not a GAA club.
In fairness you also had Tracey and Rainsford there that are local lads who weren't great the other night. I also thought Gaffney, Oji and Folan were trying hard. MCGrath too while not really being effective in the game. I do think Shane Waters and Clarke would be an improvement on Rainsford and Sheedy though.
Was at the match friday night and limerick never really looked like scoring a goal.the team isnt as strong as last year with seven or eight gone and only a few replacements.darragh rainsford, james mcgrath and even jason hughes arent up to league of ireland standard.its the midfield is causing major problems at the minute with only shane duggan doing his best in midfield.he cant do it on his own and is constantly under pressure.jason hughes runs around like a headless chicken with no sense of direction.shane tracey isnt playing well either.up front we havent a lethal finisher.its going to be a long season and looks like we will be at the bottom end of the table.danny galbraith and mick leahy arent going to change us that much.taylor if you ask me talks a load of crap all the time and it shows the way the team are playing.thomond park is awfull for matches but we just have to suck it up for now.the priority should be the senior team and not all these bloody mickey mouse teams that they have from baby blues etc.they are trying to do too much and then you have all the hangers ons that they have.with just over 800 at home games i dont know how they do it.
Ya the local lads thing upping attendances doesn't really fly when we have had Duggan, Tracey, Hughes and Rainsford starting and are all local lads. Costello and Mann are also local lads. Having a cup final and underage games clashing with the senior game doesn't help either.
We had a good season last year given it was our first season in the premier and I think I'd be fairly safe in saying that what we all wanted was for us to consolidate or even push on from that. Instead we have taken a big step backwards on the playing front. Injuries haven't helped the situation but against that we only have a decent starting eleven when everyone is fit - we have no bench! As for junior matches hitting attendances: the junior season ends in a few weeks so it will be interesting to see if that is actually the case. As for having more locals in the side I honestly do not think that it makes any difference. If you look back on the good sides we've had there has always been a sizeable contingent of players from outside the City/County. All that really matters to fans is the result and to a lesser extent the style of play. I know I have cited Taylor's style of play as our major problem but if the results were better I'd have to bite my lip a bit more than I am. But then again as long as we're playing in TP I'll have something to bitch about!
p.s Have I mentioned that I hate TP?
so clarke tierney waters Mullins would not draw intrest from there respective clubs??? and all the people who debate on Facebook are they good enough or not?? big diffrence btween jackman div 1 and premier and thomand park yee asked how to get crowds back I don't see any better suggestions??? sheedy never plays or rarely makes the bench and rainsford never played junior.. don't think Ross Mann is a city boy is he??
Mann isn't a city boy but he is still from Limerick, the club is a representative of the whole county not just the city.
I'd like to see Clarke, Waters and Tierney with Limerick because I think they could add something quality wise and wouldn't want them purely because they are local. I just don't think it would add crowds for a sustained period purely because more Limerick lads are in the starting team, maybe a few from the respective clubs at the start but if we aren't winning will they keep attending? I doubt it. The only thing that adds crowds is a winning team and one that plays good football is a bonus. At the moment though we are picking up a few points which is great but the displays in front of the home support have been very disheartening and I can see why people are losing interest.
The club have said they want to promote from within which is admirable and the way i'd like to see the club going in the future but it feels more like they are promoting from within at the moment because we have no other choice rather than because the younger lads are actually ready for it which doesn't actually do anything to help the younger lads.
I would love to see Shane Clarke, John Tierney, Wayne Colbert etc. back playing, purely because they'll bring quality to the squad. Will it attract a hundred more to games? Potentially at the start, but not long term. Could you say more from Ballynanty FC have come to games because we signed Jason Hughes? I don't think so.
The only thing that will start to draw crowds back is a bit of excitement.
Going off what he was like with us before, he'd be a much better option than Sheedy or Rainsford.
Mick Cooke is gone from Athlone today too... A new manager could have a decent effect on them so they start picking up points. Would have been much better for us if they just stayed as they were.
