Its plain to say - Everyone hates Hey Baby
I'm sure we can get this changed by the time the Croatia game comes around but what do you want it replaced by. Suggestions please.

Although I LOVE Paul Cleary & The Blades, playing "last man in Europe" or "Ghost of a chance" always put the sh!ts up me in the warm ups....too ominous.... and as for watching David Connolly forlornly battering balls over an empty net at a half time run out to the strains of "Ordinary Man"...the less said the better.
I'm indifferent towards the church of Bono, but the standout Music/Landsdowne crossover moment for me was "Elevation" at The Dutch game. The old crappy stadium was just vibrating.
Do we even need a cheesy tune ? ? ? The roar of the crowd, inevitably followed by a chorus of 'Come on you boys...' 'Ireland, Ireland ....' or whatever. I feel that a natural reaction from the crowd beats any tune that the FAI come up with, because of the passion and emotions involved. I think that blasting cheesy pop ruins this natural reaction of the crowd to a goal.

We don't need any of this crap music. Certainly not just before the game and certainly not when we score - all it does is discourage the crowd noise. We especially don't need that "Hey Baby" rubbish - unless we're styling ouselves on an English provincial team circa 2001 (Preston to be precise).

i cant believe that anyone could possibly think that playing a pop-tune, or any tune, after a goal is scored can help create atmosphere. how does it help??... the one time that you certainly dont need false atmosphere is after a goal is scored as everyone is cheering anyway. it is just not befitting an international football occasion. all it actually achieves is to dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd.
i thought it couldnt get any worse than "hey baby" until proved wrong last night when they played "Congratulations" after Keane got his first......... what will it be next??.... "happy birthday" when its the player who scored's birthday??? "here comes the bride" when a player just got married??!!
if they wanna play anything where all can recognise then play something from pogues or u2

A couple of things...
1. What's all that about? Why would they need to tell us to "put our hands up in the air" after a goal? They'll all be up anyway and besides, it's none of their f'ing business what I do with my hands!! :)
2. I don't remember that bit even being part of that song (although it's a few years old now - another reason to ditch it - so I could be wrong). Is this some Landsdowne Road-remix special where they stick bits of various cheesy crap old songs together for the purposes of maximum annoyance?

This has gone too far. Someone asked on another thread who they'd have to kill to get it stopped. Well you could always do humanity a favour by doing away with DJ Otzi and Sir Cliff but it still wouldn't stop them playing stupid bits of songs after a goal. We need to bombard Fran the Man with FEEDBACK until this abomination has been laid to rest. :o
is this problem not caused by the fai getting some shower of cnuts who do this nonsense at the british glaswegians who wear green clubs matches to "event manage" the atmosphere at LR.
Well I think they've failed miserably and that should be communicated to the fai and if they wont listen, maybe maybe just maybe we should start booing when this muck comes on. :eek:

I think having to play a song or a piece of music after a goal is scored is a true indictment on how much the atmosphere is lacking at Landsdowne Road.Before and after the game it definitely adds to setting a lively atmosphere, but during the game begs the question as to what fans want when the go to see a match and how bothered they are to fully appreciate the match. Maybe a half time concert would appease the Irish soccer fans!!
I dont think the use of a goal sting is strictly an Indictment of the Graveyard gloom around Landsdowne, Several other international venues use a 'crowdshaker' whenever a goal is scored.Quote:

I think anything that helps create a jubilant mood in the grand old home of Irish rugby is to be commended, but the general concensus is that 'Hey baby' is horrible muck, and most certainly doesn't create any mood except "Bad".
If forced to choose between DJ Otzi's contemporary masterpiece and complete silence, granted, yes I would choose silence, but being honest, I Dont think that a few Celebratory Irish-themed Licks after a goal (a la the Pogues, Horselips, House of Pain, Lizzy, etc, as mentioned earlier..) would do the general vibe any harm at all....
As for notifying the F.A.I. via the feedback forum on the website? Does the term "p*ssing against the wind" ring any bells....? I think they have a spam filter that blocks out anything containing the words "complain", "atmosphere", "p.a.", "announcer", "music", "cliff F*cking richard", "otzi", "b*llocks", "enjoyment" (and possibly "I".....)

surely the one time that false atmosphere isn’t required is just after a goal is scored…. i've never found the roar after an Irish goal lacking ever until they introduced that "hey baby" muck at lansdowne. does anyone remember McAteers goal against Holland? Keanes against Portugal?? even Kennedy’s against Yugoslavia???..... magic moments to be remembered for what they are.... classic Irish sporting moments with the crowd going bananas to add to the excitement unspoilt by a ridiculous pop tune!! I honestly believe that the playing of music after a goal kills the spontaneity of the crowds reaction to a goal..... all it does is pander to the armchair fan who wants to sit in their seat and be entertained!Quote:
