Who will win the FAI Cup? I'm going for Drogs.
So far it looks like Longford or Drogs - wonder what odds youd get for Rockmount?
I'm going for DE TOWN to be the first team since $h€££$ in 96 and 97 to win back to back FAI Cups. A repeat of $h€££$ '97 result (2-0 against Derry in the final would do nicely.) Spock never wins in cup finals. :D
If we somehow manage not to freak things up against rockmount i reckon it could be our year
So everyone's reckoning it's their year then? :D
I think it could be us. ;) We probably will despatch Kildare easily enough at the Brandy next week. I'd be confident of beating anyone at the Brandy in the semi-finals. We should be able to bring any away draw back to the Brandy, though I'd worry about a trip to United Park.
I think Derry are the most likely winners at this stage although I'm still quietly confident we might manage it.
I actually think UCD could be the shock of the round.Quote:

Ive a hefty figure on my team at this stage :D
Its been almost 2 years since i drunk vodka and white from that cup, too long. :D
Very confident we can do it. Its our best chance for a long time and were well capable of beating any of the teams left
So everyone fancies their own club then. I should've added 'Vote for who you THINK will win the league, not who you want to win it'.
Thought it was the cup you were interested in? :DQuote:

These odds haven't changed since before the draw was made, it should be noted.
Interesting that we're so close to Waterford and Derry in the odds. If I don't consider us (and we've a very good record against Drogs at home and have already beaten a better team in Cork), then Waterford are looking good, if only for having half a foot in the semis already.
I reckon a Derry-Longford final could well happen, with Longford taking it again.
Having just stuck a few more quid on us with Paddypower, I'd say the RTE odds are well out of date. From memory the odds were
11-4 Waterford
3-1 Derry
7-2 Drogheda
7-2 Longford
8-1 UCD
16-1 Kildare County
28-1 Athlone
66-1 Rockmount
So basically going with League position apart from Drogheda, who don't seem to be getting much credit for their League form? Strange.
Drogs are at 7-2 in the above odds probably because their match against UCD has the best potential for a "shock".
Ladbrokes had the following on Monday:
Derry City 7/2
Drogheda 7/2
Waterford United 7/2
Longford Town 9/2
U.C.D. 9/2
Kildare County 9/1
Athlone Town 20/1
Rockmount 40/1
Aye, that makes more sense alright. As I said, the Cronicle/Aertel ones weren't updated after the draw. Drogheda are the only Premier side drawn away from home, and against a better team than the other three (on league positions anyway!)Quote:

drogs are the form team, but cup football and all that....I have a sneaky feeling its gonna be a Waaaherfurd v Durry final, with Stephen Kenny making sure the bus goes by Dalyer on the way home so he can parade the cup and give those bohs ****s the finger :p :p
Stuck a tenner on the Students at 8/1. We're playing well and confidence is high, so we could well be in with a shout to repeat our feat of twenty years ago :)
Gonna go for Derry myself just have a feeling it could be their year.
Shelsman, you should have asked "who other than your own club has the best chance of winning the cup". The poll might then have a value. As it is subscribers are overcome with tribalism, hunger, greed, and can't see beyond their own clubs.

Only prob for Rockmount is that they are missing the captain and maybe the goal poacher they found in pre season.
With nothing to lose on the night, it will obviously take one of those days to see them win, you know where Waterford play bad and Mount all play out of their skins kind of night....but stranger things have happened. They don't concead much, but obviously Waterford score a lot...all on the night, a cracking game in prospect....
I'd say the same but Derry to win it, If Derry get to the final i'd say they'll take it. Other than that .... Drogs, Longford and Waterford .... but thats just on paper, predictable call.Quote:

i think it will be UCD's year,also backed them a 8/1,reckon we'll get a draw in stokestown 9/4.
strokestown is in roscommon, we play in flancare park in longford, wouldn't want you to miss the match :D
Was in the bray area last night and went to the match and have to say i didnt think much of ucd but as people are saying in the cup anything can happen but i think on our current run of form it would be hard to see us losing, and going back to pineapple stu's comments about cork being stronger we've played them twice a nd got a draw down there with 10 men and a comfortable win in united park.
We have a strong chance because we are a cup team. We can beat anyone home or away, we have a strong defence and have a gritty nature, so grinding out a one nil is very possible. UCD away is tricky and ensure we are not over confident, in the end we shall progress. Longford and Derry are the danger and I think Rockmount will make it tougher for Waterford than most expect. I think we will get by whoever we meet in the semi, maybe Derry in Utd park, proceed to meet Longford in the final where I just dont know yet, but you guys will be the first to know when I do ;) .
Would I be right in thinking that if team loses Drogheda in the final, and Drogheda qualify for the Setanta Cup by finishing 1st or 2nd in the League, the losing finalists would be given the Setanta Cup place? Or would it go to the 3rd placed team in the League?
No harm, yis have a class chance this year and all (and if $hel$ make an arse of their job against Dublin City eyebrows will be raised and questions asked as to the chances of a league title) but on what grounds do you base the above statement on? If there was a team in the league that I would say WASNT a cup team it would be Drogheda. As far as I know ye have 1 league cup. Anyhoo I'm nit pickin' ye have a good chance of the cup this year!!Quote:

Third in the league gets it if the cup winners qualify through the league.Quote:

From harsh experience (in Championship Manager...), I think the UEFA spot only goes to the runners-up if the Cup winners wualify for the Champions' League. Otherwise, it goes to the third-placed team in the league as well.Quote:
