Also looking forward to seeing them in oxygen though.
Conor, fair enough if you hate their music, but you've listed a few bands there that also play on an image.
In fact, most bands do.
im a fan but i hated the love cats ,why cant i be you type of stuff they did
for a couple of years.
joy division were ground breakers and their music is still excellent to listen to today.mr curtis topped himself on the eve of their us tour :(
the bunnymen were another fantastic underrated band who have some excellent stuff to their credit-heaven up here-ocean rain.......
Ditto. I do wish someone would tell Fat Bob that he's fat (oh yes he is, in an overfed-pussycat kind of way), in his late forties and happily married with several kids. Not a teenager on a the-world-doesn't-geddit or a no-one-understands-me style downer. And, what's worse, he's still churning out the same **** that the Cure were making in 1989. I liked it then, but now it sounds tired and dated.Quote:

i believe robert smith has put on about 6 stone snice he appeared in public last, is he secretly marlon brando ??? close to you, lullaby, buy don't cry, classic songs, pity they are only of the only decent acts at oxegen or i'd bother going
the smiths were top notch and i love morrissey*oooh controversial*.u gotta check out his new album, its scaringly excellent especially 'irish blood, english heart'.of course in this trhread of reminisscing one has to think about some tears for frears
Have you listened to "Hot Hot Hot" from 1987 or "Disintegration" from 1989? If you like what the Cure are doing now then you should really enjoy those two albums. :)Quote:

Don't call it naivety. There's no crime in being young; you just get to approach everything with fresh eyes, and that's no bad thing. Just witness the rantings of some of the frazzled elders on here to see why. :)Quote:

pps ccfcman. Moz is only controversial if you read British tabloids.
'We'll let you know' is a great song about football hooligans. They could play it over the PA this evening.
"We're all smiles
Then, honest, I swear, it's the turnstiles
That make us hostile"
'Just like Heaven' and 'Catch' from Hot Hot Hot would be my favourite cure songs, think they're past it at this stage though, saw them on (i think it was ) Jonathon Ross recently and was left feeling, 'so what'
The Cure are brilliant. I wish they'd re-record Charlotte Sometimes.
I'm not a huge fan of popular music, but The Cure are one of the few groups who can infuse it with genuinely evocative atmosphere (even popular tracks like Close to Me; the version without the horrible f*cking brass in it, anyway.)
The Cure are one of the all time great English Bands and to try and capture them using love cats is a travesty.............Their real early stuff is great which includes classics like Grinding Halt, Fire in Cairo, Accuracy, Boys Don't cry, Killing an Arab and one of my top 3 cure songs (A Forest)...they went real dark with Faith & Pornography..(some real great tracks there too Primary and One Hundred Years to name 2) ..some heavy **** also there.......They really lightened up then with Japanese wispers which included the infamous love cats song... The Top was another great album which inlcudes Shake Dog Shake and The Caterpillar.....The Concert (a live album) with unreleases B-sides was released then...some real dark **** on teh b sides.....head on the door was next...a solid album....kiss me kiss me kiss me was next and it is a class album....2 favourites are just like heaven and hot hot hot...Disentigration was next and although quite dark at times has some really great songs on it...like Pictures of You and Lullaby......Mised up a remix album was next and I didnt like that at all.....close to me remix was good tho....Kinda lost interest after that so cant really comment much on albums after that because I dont own them....Did get teh Galore album...dont really have much time for the later stuff...........
they were a great bands live, just watch teh live video Orange...classic stuff....but they still should be able to put ona good show, even if robert is the only one left...the band members changed so often it was funny....
Bang on Northofthelee. The Cure are easily one of the best English bands of the eighties and Just Like Heaven is one of my favourite songs of all time.
I'd nearly consider going to Oxegen just to see The Cure but the 40,000 puking teenagers would put me off. Conor - go out and buy the Cure's Greatest Hits, I guarantee even you'll like it.
KOH
The Concert , the Cure Live .....Listen to that Conor....great Album....I had the cassette version and it had the B-sides but when I got it on CD the b-side were missing :(Quote:

Staring at the Sea is an early singles collection. Granted it still has Boys Don't Cry, Inbetween Days and Lovecats; it also has Play for today and some other good songs - A forest, Charlotte sometimes.Quote:

I always thought of the Cure as second rate but harmless, in between days is a great New Order rip off!
The Smiths,New Order, The Fall, Princesstinymeat,Stump......I could go on for hours!
You forgot to mention The Jesus and Mary Chain. Psychocandy is one of the greatest albums of all time.Quote:

Never mind Manchester,Cork was the real home of music in the eighties!( suckin up to the natives!)
Microdisney,Stump,5 go down to the sea,....typical I can't think of anymore!
Two of the Carpets are from Oldham afaik, including Clint Boon hence the Oldham Band thing. Rest are Mancs.
The Charlatans - Burgess was born in Manch, grew up in Northwich (Manc overspill). Rob Collins is from Manchester. The rest are from North Midlands, previously in various mod bands.
Brown and Squire were from Timperley, which is close enough to Altrincham, so that's where that might have come from.
Surprised at you Conor, for a big dance head, slagging off something that Mike Pickering was involved with. (Still shíte though).
Mick Hucknall, what a untc.
Macy - Who's Timperley's most famous son? Frank Sidebottom. Now there's a real star, none of your Stone Roses nonsense. ;)Quote:

Frank Sidebottom, now your talking real music; particularly fond of his cover of 'I should be so lucky'.. was always dragged out for Match of the Day when Altringham were in the Third round of the FA Cup. Also he was on 'Hit the North' with Mark and Lard when they started on Radio 5. Fcuking hilarious.

MODS:IF THIS POST IS INAPPROPIATE,JUST DELETE IT PLEASE
He was banned from Alty, as he was bad luck (must have kept going, minus head considering where they're languishing around now). Only a glory hunter anyway, ditching Timperley Big Shorts every time Alty had a cup run. Used to go a few Altrincham games (and also a few Bury games), some great games in the early rounds of the Cup - Clive Freeman against Chester* (when they were still a league team) won Goal of the Month. Sad to see their demise when the likes of Macc went on to the league (Alty were always the better club!).Quote:

*btw The Deva Stadium in Chester would be a good model for eL teams IMO. Nice compact, simple 6,000 capacity. Standing at the two ends, seats down the two sides.
