He has a good chance of getting the job as well. All depends on what happens in the next few matches of course. I take it he is talking about succeeding after the 2014 World Cup.

I really hope he doesn't get it. I'd prefer to see Chris Hughton or Mick McCarthy.
He's in a tricky position I would have thought. First of all, if he was going to get it, I'd prefer him to get it after this campaign. Secondly he is part of a twosome at present, so he is linked to the current success/failure of the present manager. I mean if we didn't qualify for the Euro's, there is enough basis to look for a new manager. Another aspect is
that while a group of players in the squad are coming to the end (probably 5 - Killer, Keane, Duff, Dunne, Given) insofar as the qualifiers for WC14 don't start for another 16 months give or take, the general age of the squad will be quite young, and would have enough time on their side for a new management team to take over.
If Tardelli wants to wait until after 2014, I can't see it happening myself.
Never a good sign when the FIFA rankings have to be dragged up as barometer of success or lack of it. The qualifying campaign to get to the Finals, is our barometer. I'd expect Tardelli to have ambitions. It's hard to tell what he would bring to set up if he was in charge.
Getting the sponsorship from a rich patron to pay some of the costs was an important development in the overall scheme of things. Seeing as we have Delaney for life, if he can repeat that stroke when the time comes, then it gives us more options.
Hard to know. The guy seems popular & charismatic. He'd be harder working than Trap in terms of attending English games. What we don't know is how good a coach or strategist he is.
I have to say I like him, but that doesn't count for a whole lot.
I think his appliction should be considered but in no way should he automatically take over from trap. The position should be open to all people interested and any possibly interesting candidates who happen to be free at the time should be asked if they want to apply. Then they should choose the best available candidate be that Tardelli or not. I personally feel we should be able to find someone more suitable than Tardelli. However, I think our only chance of getting a high-profile and respected manager will be again one nearing retirement that still has a lot to offer but doesn't want the pressure of managing a big club on a day-to-day basis. Especially if there is not as much money on offer as at the moment the financial lure and high profile of the Premership or other top leagues will be too great.
Then we will only get the usual suspects applying - the has beens or the have never beens.
Maybe it might be one last job for Roy Hodgson?
In his favour his knowledge of the players should be excellent, and he's worked hard being Trap's ear to the ground and primary scout. But it shouldn't be an automatic selection. As has been said, much will depend on how we do in qualifying.
Can't see him getting it if he demands the same wages as Il Trap.
Though if he does I imagine he won't be quite as stubborn. Might even bring back the two Reids if they're still fit by that time.
It will all depend on how we look by the end of this campaign, whether it's a serious option or not.
If not I'd like to see Chris Hughton get it.
I think McCarthy or Owen Coyle would be decent choices too.
Owen Coyle would be a great appointment, but he'll be moving on to bigger things in the Premier League. Roy Hodgson would be great aswell, though not sure what his circumstances would be. I've absolutely no idea why people would want Mick McCarthy back in charge, presumably because they see him on the telly a bit and he seems quite funny. Tardelli would be right up there on any shortlist, presumably the players would have a say to Delaney re: how good or not he is on the training ground. The continuity is one aspect that'd be new but quite nice.
We should not assume that Tardelli would be a continuation of Trap. Like Brady, he might well have his own different ideas but is in a subordinate role to the much respected Trap.
No thanks to Tardelli. Need to draw a line under the current regime and start afresh. Chris Hughton, Mick McCarthy, Owen Coyle (highly unlikely) all reasonable options but really depends on what kind of managerial market is out there when the time comes
Yeah let's start afresh by bringing back an old manager who left under a cloud of controversy and bad feeling, who in the interim has managed to be relegated how many times from the Premier League?
Ya but you have to get there first before you can be relegated.
He's a punt, but hardly be a crazy appointment. He'd be very familiar with all the players and, as Trap's chief scout, far more knowledgeable about other Irish non-squad players. Unlike Trap he will attend games other and it's fairly likely he'll be more diplomatic/better understood when dealing with issues akin to McCarthy. Question marks over his track record but legitimate claim nonetheless.
Is there a problem with that sentence?
Either Reid is a better option than a few we have in our squad but Trap simply won't pick them cos he's too stubborn.
I think Mick would be decent. We played good football under him and he's great at inspiring teams, especially against big opposition, but can't see him going back to work with Delaney and the FAI.
Chris Hughton or Coyle would be my two first choices in no particular order
i'm not saying I'm for it, but Brady has to be interested in doing it himself if the timing is right?
I can't see anyone in a premier league job leaving to take us over.
All will depend on what situation we are in after even this qualifying campaign. We really need to qualify. It will be ten years since we qualified for our last finals and 24 since our last euros. Was thinking the other day that my 10 yo brother was 1 when we qualified for wc2002. I even remember waking him up from a sleep in his cot shouting after Keane scored against Portugal. There is a generation of kids who have no idea what its like to ne involved in an international tournament and its this that is important. If trap gets us to Poland-Ukraine then I'll be more than happy for tardelli to succeed him.
I do think though Brady managing and Tardelli as an assistant would be a good next step.
Yes, unfortunately there was a lot wrong with your sentence. One Reid Trap originally would have wanted to build a team around, but he's made of biscuits and is permanently broken and y'know, retired from international football. The other Reid is a whale, who played for us for years and did largely nothing, left Sunderland so desperate to get rid of him they sent him on loan to the Championship, and is now a bench warmer for Blackpool where he waddles on to the pitch for 15 minutes as his team get swamped in midfield, losing heavily, but has one shot on goal that goes narrowly wide. Anyway, this has all been done to death in other threads.
While I have huge admiration for Chris Hughton and believe he is a fantastic coach, his managerial career is too short to be considered for an International Managers job. I wouldn't mind seeing him and Tardelli work together but I reckon Brady will come back into the fold as Tardelli's number 2 should Trap walk away or get the heave ho!!!
Tardelli's only success as a coach came at Italian U21 level where he won the European Championships. Any senior coaching job he has had has been disastrous as far as I can tell. He lasted 6 months in the job as manager of Egypt, drawing with Benin and losing to Libya in competitive games. In context, that would be like Ireland losing to Cuba and drawing with Thailand (OK, based on world rankings at the time, but still :P). He won promotion with some serie C team, but that seems to be about the level of achievement he has shown as a manager. I'd like to see a manager who could at least hold down a previous job for more than a year in charge next time around.
Interestingly, as manager of Egypt, he was paid $40,000 a month (around €340k per anum) with a $100k bonus for qualifying for the World Cup (which he didn't do). That might give some indication as to the level of wages he might expect. Certainly a lot more manageable than Trap.
Jeez, 40k a month? I'd do it for half that!
Tardelli = Stan the sequel. Equally difficult to decipher in tv interviews too.
I'd like Tardelli to succeed trap, continuity at international level would be a great thing.
All due respect to Alf Honn who shows up once in a blue moon... I think he has worked hard on this issue. And most important, he knows our players (Probably painstakingly.)
Now, go away and make a call on who should manage the 14 team or have some balls and comment when you should.
Currently out of a managerial job :
Martin O'Neill, Chris Hughton, David O'Leary, Glenn Hoddle, Steve Coppell, Steve McClaren, Alan Curbishley, Bryan Robson, Gareth Southgate, Sam Allardyce, Kevin Keegan, John Gregory, Ray Wilkins, Peter Taylor, Terry Venables, Graeme Souness, Gordon Strachan, Bruce Rioch.
Louis van Gaal, Martin Jol, Leo Beenhakker (will be in June), Ronald Koeman, Henk ten Cate, Johan Neeskens, Frank Rijkaard, Marco Van Basten, Bernd Schuster, Rudi Völler, Jurgen Klinsmann, Marcello Lippi, Claudio Ranieri, Gianfranco Zola, Gianluca Vialli, Fatih Terim, Diego Maradona.
That list is hard reading.
Beyond the first few names it's just an honour roll of failure.
Venables? Rioch?
There's holes in the barrel after them.
Seriously in all fairness, when will the suggestions of Venables as potential Irish Manager die? When? Even if suggested jokingly its still not funny. He's such a cretin.
Hughton, O'Neill, Lippi, Ranieri, Beenhakker or Rijkaard would all be welcome additions to the glorious pantheon of Irish coaching.
Think Venables was doomed the moment Dunphy turned on him.
Do we really need to put ourselves through the grief of a next manager thread?

Junk status.
