aren't we playing Romania at the end of May.
the players would be better off having a rest and being fresh when we hope to catch the French and the Swiss on their post Euro2004 hangover
Where did you hear this? I thought we were off to the good ole' US of A for that bloody US Cup thingy.Quote:

What about the Holland friendly at the start of June?
;)
i think i smell a wind-up
Have a quick look at yer calanders there lads!
There was something in one of the papers last weekend about this (not winding you up BTW!) I can't remember when it was supposed to be on but us, Jamaica and either Nigeria or some other African team (can't remember who) would be playing.
Ireland are to play two friendlies in london..they will be sandwiched in between the romania and holland games.....Jamaiaca is one but didn't here the other yet...just said a top african team
not a wind up..i promise
Bring Back Mick is right - this competition is going ahead and Ireland are participating. I think it's a great opportunity to get the lads involved in healthy competitions and lots of month-by-month friendlies to get them into shape for the World Cup Qualifiers.
I don't understand why we're playing this in London, should the FAI not try to play this in Dublin to make some money? I'm not going to complain too much though cause I live in London.
They're probably being paid a rake of money to play there...Quote:

In todays sun which is dodgy source but makes it a bit more realistic !
It was in the Independent on Tuesday and said discussions were at an advanced stage but i think the Paraquay was mentioned as one of the teams
Just seen it on www.eleven-a-side.com, it say's they've nearly sorted it all out. We did talk about this @ the supporter's club meeting last week, but nobody took it serious, but it seem's now it could be happening after all.
This from Soccercentral:
FAI suggest no agreement on Nigeria game
Officials of Nigeria's Football Association have announced that they will play matches against the Republic of Ireland and Jamaica in May though the FAI have denied any agreement.
It has been reported that the game against Ireland will be on 26 May at Southampton's Saint Mary's, however, Brian Kerr’s side are already confirmed to host Romania in Lansdowne Road on May 27 so that date seems a little wide of the mark. The date mentioned is also the night that the UEFA Champions League final takes place.
An FAI source said “The FAI are in ongoing discussions regarding possible games against Jamaica and Nigeria but nothing has been agreed upon and there have been no decisions on dates or venues.”
Its a good idea, especially when you consider the amount of Irish, Africian and West Indian decended people in London.
The Pakistan criket team get great crowds when they play in England.
Was talking to a Jamacian workmate about it, he said that they'd heard it had been confirmed on the radio, date's don't seem to make sence though.
The Daily Star (UK version) seem to think this is going ahead. Wouldn't mind attending this if anyone has any official information. :)
According to BBC TV text just now, ourselves, Jamaica and Nigeria will be involved in a triangular tournament to be played at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic, from Saturday 29 May to Wednesday 2 June.Quote:

You think the withdrawals from this match were bad, wait until you see the drop outs in the squad for the Nigeria/Jamaica games.
i wouldnt guess there would be too many withdrawals, the club managers have no reason to get pee'd off because there will be no club games to play.Quote:

Plus, good choice on the venue, the valley is a great ground :D
Why? Most countries will either be in the European Champs or a small tournament. I'm sure we'll have most of the players available.Quote:

This is probably the best chance we're going to have of winning something at senior level for the foreseeable future.
Considering how far away Nigeria and Jamaica are, it will be like a home tournament for us (even if there are a lot of Nigerian/Jamaican ex-pats in London, we should still easily outnumber them).
I don't think we've won anything since like 1986 or something so we should really give this thing a good go.
It's also on Charlton's official website as confirmed, strange how the FAI are always the last to announce things
http://www.charlton-athletic.co.uk/s....ink?nid=20100
It is the Unity cup-a cup for the three biggest ethnic minoritys in England-i.e Ireland, Nigera and Jamiaca and aims to unite them through football-fair play to them :)
should be a good tournie as club season has finished and no Euro 2004 so should get the good players out, I'm certainly going for it as my first ever Ireland match. Tickets available from ticket master 9.00 tuesday morning, (have a look in 'Tickets' in the 'For Fans' forum).
I don't see the tickets on Ticketmaster, any ideas? I'm back in Ireland for my sister's 21st on the Saturday so I'll have to miss the Nigeria game. I'll still catch the Jamaica game and the Valley is only down the road from where I live.Quote:
