Listened to it over lunch, it was good for a first episode, not sure I'll be giving up my devotion to the big rooster a la Marty, but it was good all the same.
The only concern I would have does this give them an excuse to bump the League off the weekend sport shows? And it probably won't get much on Sport at Seven either now. As an extra it's great, as a replacement for the mainstream it further marginalises the League.
Going to listen to the podcast at work tomorrow, a great way to keep up with what's happening..

The podcast is up alright but it wasn't on RTÉ Radio 1 Extra like it usually is.
Sadly yes. I'm sure we are in our second season without LoI coverage on Friday Sportsnight at this stage. Fantastic programme and I really miss it. Thankfully there are a few more televised games and streams available to keep in touch but those 3 hours on Friday night were excellent.Quote:

Thats because "Shams Galway" in the league is 10 times more important than the league cup. Which btw isn't the first trophy to be handed out this season... (and that trophy got 3/4 minutes too back in may)
Before anyone starts I'm not trying to knock Sligo's win. Fair play to them. However for most of the top 5 teams, including themselves, it was at best 4th in their priorities.
Plus it was a completely non-controversial game that went exactly as how everyone thought it would, and has no repercussion on any European places/rest of the season. Not too much more to say about it than congratulations to both sides.

This "banter" between the 2 boys I'm sure provided enough of a "poor man's dunphy" effort to keep the non-loi supporting listeners from turning over-which of course is the point of Roddy's full time gig with newstalk among other media outlets!
I'm sure if we had realistic hopes of winning the league it might be different but it was fairly obvious early on this seaosn that our small squad simply wasn't big or good enough for a league challenge. We can, however, beat any team on our day so the cup is/was a realistic ambition.Quote:
