We have a fair bit of work to do if its hosted at home, just a small matter of installing a min of 1,700 seats for starters.
How many seats does your stand have? Even if you do get 1,700 it'd be a shame not to be able to make the most of a Euro game with a big crowd.
Our stand hold around ~1200 seats but a few of them don't have backs on them which is a requirement by UEFA standards.Quote:

I'm pretty sure Newry's ground has far too few seats for the UEFA requirements.
I assume that article doesn't actually resolve the Ian Foster UEFA Pro licence issue? As in, Dundalk have applied for Europe but could still theoretically be turned down because their manager hasn't got the requisite qualifications?
From what i am led to believe Stu the F.A.I can deem him to be up to the job to manage in Europe and that covers that end of things.By all accounts the FAI have told Dundalk the place is ours and that is the long and short of it.Quote:

They could be turned down for any number of reasons*. I wouldn't be surprised if Sligo have been asked to apply too (on the basis that if Dundalk's application is refused, they'd still need a team). Pats were asked to apply before Shels wen officially ka-booom in 2007 (just in case)
I'm sure Dundalk will have Pats, Bohs and Tallaght Stadium all vying to host the games in their place.

Isn't there a rule about playing European matches in your own jurisdiction too? I think one of the Welsh teams had problems when they tried to play in Chester or something like that.
Linfield played their 'home' game v us in Holland in 1979 and also Shels played Rangers at Tranmere Rovs in mid 90`s, then again one was security related and the other as Linfield were barred from playing the return leg in Windsor park, and wouldnt play the game in Ireland, think the ruling was it had to be 150 miles from Belfast = outside NI !Quote:

The FAI have only nominated you as one of their representatives to compete in the Europa League- Dundalk FC still has to pass what is in the UEFA Licensing to be allowed compete.Quote:

I think it's quite clear from his post that wasn't what he meant.
The ground won't be a problem at all, if necessary other stadia can be used. The issue is whether or not UEFA give dispensation in regards to Ian Foster. It would be interesting to see if there is precedence for this.
Wheres the money going to come from, from what looks like a huge upgrade into Oriel.

08 MARCH 2010: DUNDALK SET FOR EUROPA CAMPAIGN
Dundalk FC have received confirmation from the FAI that team manager Ian Foster has been accepted for the next UEFA Pro License coaching course – being run the English FA – after recently successfully completing his A License qualification. The course, which commences this summer, will enable the club to comply with the UEFA coaching requirement set down for all team managers whose club competes in the UEFA club competitions.
Gerry Matthews, Dundalk CEO said “we are very appreciative of the efforts of the FAI, and have no doubt that their recommendations and support for Ian’s Pro License application played a major part in securing this coveted place on the English FA course. The next FAI Pro License course would not be in time for this year’s Europa League, and I was delighted to receive the call this morning from John Delaney relaying the good news”
“While our Project Team are still hard at work on the feasibility and logistics of taking Oriel Park up to UEFA standard, it is not yet clear that the necessary work can be completed in the available time span. We have a passionate desire to hold the first home game in early July in Oriel Park; we will be in a better position to make a decision on both the time and cost issues in the next fortnight, when we have analysed the stadium engineers report. But right now, it’s time to check on the passports and get ready for Dundalk’s first European adventure since 2002!”
Dundalk first matches in the Europa League are set for July 1 and July 8, and should progress be secured, will play in the next round on successive weeks on July 15 and July 22
