No harm in them taking some level of interest for a change. Especially if it means the FAI start watching their backs with regard to the consistent enforcement of their own rules.
I hope that Delaney compares the supports given to the horse and dog racing industries compared to those given to the country's biggest participation sport.
The opportunity here is for Delaney to stand before them and when they ask why the league is in the crapper to be honest, while adding "your giving all the money to dogs and horses doesn't help though, you shower of hypocrits".
I hope he goes all Gogarty on them!

the league is not the problem, it's the chairmen of certain clubs whom overspend money they don't have every year, don't see any harm in Delaney getting funding if goes to the grass roots of the game.Quote:

Why the Irish Government is paying out hand over fist in Social Welfare to folk only coming to Ireland to sit on their arse and make money.
The FAI are not exactly covering themselves in glory when it comes to LOI but it's a bit rich of the Government to call them into question.
As far as I know all sporting bodies have been called in one by one to talk as the government are trying to look at their capital spending on sport and just want to find out what is going on in all sports.

In fairness, the Government have provided support for the LOI through the various grants they provide. while this may not be on the scale given to other sports it has been substancial over the years. As SP points out the LOI has not helped its cause by the way it has operated.Quote:

It is difficult for any organisation to go looking to the Govt for funding when a previous allocation was misappropriated (THIS IS NOT A GO AT SRFC BUT SIMPLY A FACT relevant to the discussion).
The government could be more generous but in such a fractious situation it's difficult. Maybe they could take over the running of the league, do a NAMA on it (joke) or just simply provide facilities via local councils and run them as proper businesses.
TNB is due to be there too! Seems he has a fair bit of political clout.

Not for one second justifying the mad money thrown at the nags and dogs but it should be pointed out that they presented the Government with a coherent business plan to entice the money from them. At this moment the LOI does not know its future structure or membership never mind have a coherent business strategy. As long as this remains the position then we can forget about substanial investment from any source.Quote:
