Arsenal wearing Sega on their jerseys a while back, when Sega meant something rather rude when they were playing any Italian teams in the Champions League... as for eL teams, none spring to mind... apart from Pat the Baker for Longford Town way back...

Autoglass is an embarrassing sponsor IMO.
Portsmouth with the nice big TY heart on the front of their Jersies.
Somewhere in Africa a team have their name right on the front of their Jersy, they are called something along the lines of,
"St. Pinatubo Wanka"

There is a coffee company called SegaFredo (Fredo means cold) and they dont go down too well with fans as sponsors either. :)

try cycling,they have hardwear depots (big matt),shoe companies(kelme),supermarkets(champion,super u),domestic appliance companies (fagor),among other glamourous sponsors

We played Clydebank a few years ago and they were sponsored by Wet Wet Wet. Doubt any team in the world could beat that....

Well Bosch & Lomb (spelling?) are a major employer in Waterford, and have strong links to the community there. They cater to the public of Waterford, and obviously feel its worthwhile.
There is a difference between having an "embarrassing" sponsor in the "funny/peculiar" name sense, and having a very localised sponsor.
Obviously a bigger company can give bigger sponsorship, but anyone prepared to put money into an EL team should be welcomed.
Everton were sponsored a few years back by Danka. Nothing to embarrassing about that, until one of my Liverpool-daft mates started changing the D to a W on every everton pic he saw - Big Dunc used to get it the worst!
UCD - a student team - used to be sponsored by Kaliber - a non-alcoholic beer!
What about Oxford United, who were sponsored by Wang.
Celtic when they played Lyon away, couldn't wear their sponsor's name because they were sponsored by an alcohol company which is outlawed in France.
I thought their shirt was a lot more attractive without the sponsor's name emblazoned across the front. I think sponsors names on the front of shirts look ugly.
Your right of course but their association with Waterford is a donation more than anything else. In terms of amrketing a league it'd look a lot better if we had Guinness et al sponsoring all clubs. The like sof Dundalk cabs ARE embarressing no matter how much money they pump inQuote:

extremely (and obviously) regional sponsors are definitely kinda embarassing. it's not the gaa for ucks sake like!

Suppose the Kerry League, who play in the LC, were sponsored by the Kerry Group?
This is a regional, local sponsor, but they also happen to be a massive multi-national company (a bit like Bausch & Lomb). What would be embarrassing about that?
If Guinness sponsor one of their local Dub clubs, would that be embarrasing?
How about Heineken sponsoring Cork City, or Ford, or even Viagra :p?

tbh Patsh, I think the point of that one is how desperate they were for the money.... Judging by their mb at the time it was hardly a big money investement - more a sign of how far the club had fallen...Quote:

staines fc, local club of megastar gangsta rapper ali g,are sponsered by seimens.its made even better by the fact that my m8,who was playing for them at the time,negotiated the deal as he also worked for seimens.they play in the ryman first division north two leagues below the english conference
I remember that WBA in Eng-ger-land used to have a big non smoking logo on their shirts, you know the one with the cig in a know and a huge red circle with a line going through it.
I thought it looked crap, back in the early 80's this impressionable young kid thought it was pretty unimpressive.
