In all fairness to Kildare County they have improved massively since Joey Sommerville has taken charge and the team is very different to the one that started the season. Can see Kildare County picking up more wins before the season is out.
Yeah, they've been competitive for a few games. Mervue's form seems to have fallen off badly, but Kildare are no pushovers any more.Quote:

Mervue are starting to realise that they are not good enough to compete in the LOI. The crowds average less than 100, and I can see Kildare catching them
Thats harsh....ok the crowds aren't great but they were never going to be for a team just up from Junior football, and who dont play at their own ground. I saw them beat Limerick, and they are not the worst team in the league. It takes time to develop a team and a club at a senior level. Ya the loss to Kildare was bad, but thats football whose to say they wont win their next one....:ball:Quote:

Agree that the move back home should bring the numbers up somewhat (was supposed to happen this month wasn't it?). GUFC had excellent gates for the 2/3rds of a season they were based there albeit a long time ago.Quote:

IMO Mervue's best chance of survival is if GUFC fold, which is an ever increasing likelihood, however hurtful I find it.
In the First Division GUFC core support was 350-500 rising to 1k+ for top-of-the-table fixtures or cup ties against higher placed opponents.
I'd say it will be the same for Mervue if they decide to stay with it (and from what I can gather that's far from a foregone conclusion).
Unlike Sligo or Dundalk soccer in Galway has competition from Rugby and Gaelic Games virtually all through the season. Apart from the general effects of the recession, attendances will only support running costs if the club is competing at the top end of the Premier league and winning consistently at home.

Is it true that Mervue are in trouble money wise and might not be in the league next year? There was an interview with the kildare manager on kfm on friday night and the interviewer said that it was reported that Mervue was in difficulty and Kildare could be saved from relegation.
if that happens someone up there really likes kildare! two seasons in a row they would be saved?
