Ok , here goes , I am turning 40 in July and am seriously thinking of getting a tattoo to mark the occasion . Something small with my 2 daughters and grandson's names . Am I mad ? .
Any ideas on a tattoo if I do go ahead and get one.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. i've an uncle who has the wife and two daughters tatoo'd on his arm aswell as a few others. there not that bad when there something so small, but these big ones are just awful. the uncle has a few celtic ones there actully a class bit work of art!! :)
Maybe you could get it sponsored? :D

The WoW Gold selling website has paid Russian porn star $500,000 to tattoo their company's logo and website URL to her breasts.
Maybe you could spend the money on something worthwhile instead?
I agree - as a respectable 40 year old you should get a permanent, non removable, trendy for now, fitting nicely on your skin now but likely to look ridiculous when you are 65 body marking stabbed into you by a "professional" bloke stabbing you with a set of needles in different colours
Well done
I've always liked the idea and thought about getting one myself but was never quite sure what type to get. An ex of mine had a tatoo on her lower back, not too big, very sexy I thought!:) It's like everything I suppose, personal taste, some of them can be terrible though. The only thing that would really bother me would be the sterilisation and safety of the needles etc, but then look at the amount of people too that have them and no problems.
My brother got one done of Che Guevera - only prob is that he looks cross eyed - a bit of a mess up, so be careful!!!:p
Personally, I'd rather iron my sac than draw some rubbish on my body!
I have always been torn on this, loving them one day and hating them another day.
I have an foot long scar on my ankle from breaking it a few years ago and it bugs me when wearing skirts so have often thought I should get it incorporated into a tattoo by turning it into the stalk and having a flower drawn on top.
Then I think of when I am older and wrinklier and I chicken out.
Thanks for assuming I am respectable but my thinking about this is more in a symbolic manner . It is something to mark the good things in my life so far , my daughters and grandson. I am not really worried about what it will look like when I am 65. The tattoo, if I am to go ahead with it will be done by a professional and a very good one indeed.

I know , but I can't afford the small , high powered motor.:)
I say go for it. I never understand the "it will look ridiculous when your 65 " arguement . If you are lucky enough to make it to 65 a tattoo will be the least of your concerns, and everything on you will look ridiculous from your faded tat to your flappy old man tits.
Get it done but get it done in side whats called the Tshirt line.
Yep, I say go for it as well. Though you might want to be careful about excluding any future progeny - so maybe get something that could be added to? -like a little acorn (you) opening up into a great oak (your family) which can grow more branches if and as required. Just a thought. :)
That is really lovely idea. A family tree on your arm or since the acorn is a nut of sorts..........
first hows the tattoo coming along have you made up your mind what to get done.
Do it man though I'd recommend that you follow Anto's advice and keep the first one out of plain sight. You can always get 'Mo chlann' on your forehead later on if you really want to.
If you are getting names or words though make sure and then double and triple check that they're spelled right on your outlines before the actual tattooing starts. My friend Jak could tell a story. :D
On the radio last week someone was after getting a "FIGTING IRISH" tattoo !!.
Just dont fall asleep during it :D

Hard to fall asleep when someone is putting 50 odd tattoos on your face?
Still - she was a bit brainless anway so maybe it could happen
Well she did come out and admit that she asked for the 56 stars but when she got home her dad went nuts so she made up the falling asleep bit.

I think someone needs to start a 'Motivational Posters' thread, I have a good few on my computer.
