galaxy formed.
I'm not calling it the Aviva Stadium.
They can call it whatever gets them the most dosh but I'm not calling it anything other than Lansdowne Road.
I'm not playing ball ...unless they ask me to play ball in there in which case I probably would but couldn't promise -but that's down to recurrent tendonitis...
Thought I hear on the radio this morning that Argentina are lined up as the first match ?
According to this anyway;

Will never ever call it by that silly name..
FAI... Make me wanna wretch..
€40 million off the stadium bill in a credit crunch. This is money that the FAI would have to find elsewhere. This is not a stadium that was called after Jimmy Dunne or Johnny Carey. It was called after a road in Dublin 4.
Happy to call it the Aviva stadium and glad they invested in Irish football (and rugby). I'll certainly be feeling very positive towards the company.
Great deal all round - they get name recognition as they try to establish the brand in the market and we get the cash to fund the development.
I really can't believe anybody would seriously consider turning this cash down for a stadium we used once before 1971.
I'll treat it the same as when I referred to "Home Farm", i.e. it's Lansdowne Road only.
The Hibernian would have sounded better. Surely? It's not too late to change!
Yeah I was thinking along those lines too. I like the way Kerry GAA are sponsored by Kerry Group, as opposed to say Cork and O2. Something a bit more Irish would've been nice. On a practical level though it has to be Aviva for the international exposure dimension.
As a hop-ball aside, given the financial turmoil of the country would people support the selling of the name of O'Connell Street to say, Ryanair, so that the main street in the country is then Ryanair Street, complete with statue of Michael O'Leary as the modern-day Liberator?
I heard they are naming it Shane McGowan Arena. Any truth to that?
Unfortunately by the time the stadium is completed Hibernian as a brand will no longer exist. They're in the process of changing if ya haven't noticed all those annoying ads the last month with HibernianAviva all over them. Same as with Norwich Union over on the mainland.
I think that the advertising industry has evolved to the point where it's a necessary evil
whether we call it Landsdowne Road or the Aviva Statium it is still going to look fantastic if this virtual tour is anything to go by...

They've applied to register the name as a trade mark:

A letter in the Irish Times yesterday suggested that the new ground be now known as The Palindrome. Quite funny I thought.
I think its great they pay the FAI to call it Aviva and we all call it Lansdowne Road. Whats the problem
