Ukraine at 16th........WHY!!!!!!
Never had any time for these rankings
I think the release of gas supplies will happen in Bari.
any idea where the north stand in the ratings?
They did reach the quarters in the last world cup. That would suggest they are in the top 8 in the world so maybe 16th isn't so crazy. Of course they didn't qualify for the Euros so that would suggest they are outside the top 16 in Europe alone so who knows? They are also unbeaten in their qualifying group allbeit with only 3 games played.
Sorry I know this has been discussed before, but arent seedings for the WC groups based on these rankings......so they do actually have some importance
They are a joke though. Friendly matches should not be included in determining world rankings..
These rankings are utter ********, just like the college football rankings in the US
Although I agree that the rankings are rubbish I think they generally get it right in relation to the actual seedings.
Can anyone remember what position we slipped to that the FAI used as an excuse to sack Kerr? I don't think it was quite this low, was it?
Three reasons were given,
drop in rankings,
drop in seedings,
failure to qualify,
and the Swiss had come with no fear, with an over abundance of confidence, to Lansdowne Rd.
Thats 4 ;)
We were about 20th in the Fifa Rankings,
and we had dropped to 3rd seeds for the Euro 2008 draw.
Heady days.
Sacked October 05. We were ranked 21st in October and 23rd in Novermber.
So I expect we were 21th when he was sacked

We were first seeds in the Euro 2004 qualifiers.....what a mess we made of that. I think the highest we got in the rankings was 14th under Mick McC.

Only saw this link now, we were sixth at one stage under Jack - Mad!
You should rise about 8 places in the February ranking.

God I hate seeing Australia above us in these rankings, watching them play (and struggle) against the likes of Bahrain, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, China and Iraq (They did manage to hammer Qatar 3 times) with their big game against Japan (admittedly a decent side) makes me wonder what we could do to move to Asia!! Their qualification path to the world cup now seems much easier than when they were in Oceania where they always had to play against one of the South American sides in a play off. My point is, these rankings mean very little.

This ranking are important - we are now 20th placed in the euro zone so we are 3rd seeds for next draw for the european championship - important we keep pushing on and try to climb this table abit more - nice to see Scotland behind us now :D
FIFA Ranking: March 2009 probable ranking (I).
Actually, UEFA use their own coefficient for the EURO. The FIFA Rankings are used for the WC draw - final tournament and qualifiers.

Lads,
Next Wednesday - Ireland will move to 26th in the World Rankings - does this move us to the second groups of seeds for European qualification?
Australia now 7 places behind you after losing against Kuwait.
FIFA Ranking: March 2009 final preview.
Not yet. As stated before, the seeding for the EURO preliminary competition has nothing to do with the FIFA Ranking.
