Interesting how they are keen to stress that the FAI didn't 'force' Dundalk to change to Fridays; we wouldn't want anyone to go about attempting to set fire to anyone's headquarters now, would we? :p
so when there playing against semi-pros and amateures the play on thursday nights, but when there playing gainst FULL-TIME players they play friday night, what are the bets that any thursday night games will be against part-time teams, its stinks of unprofessionalism,

thats what it was when dundalk forced amateur players to travel half the country, and take time off work on a thursday night, and now that there in the top division, with professional players the rules are they cant play on thursday night, handy theres a rule to explain it i supposeQuote:

I'm against Thursday games but if it means that a club like Dundalk can survive, I don't think anyone is in a position to deny them that right (including FAI).
Nice to see the Dundalk board willing to be flexible for the sake of the league. I hope they're rewarded in kind

I think you mean semi-professionalism. If it means we can run a near-profitable club, then balls to other semi-professional or profesional teams. Thursday nights never affected Cobh, or Cork for that matter, Dundalk always accommodated both teams by switching these games to Sunday, so get off your soapbox.Quote:

I don't know where you work, or if you do, but why on earth would it be easier to get a friday off than a thursday and why would it be easier for Dundalk's players ? Winding down for the weekend?
As for the pitch, it is an advantage, but its most certainly not an unfair advantage. I've played on it and the bounce of the ball is almost the exact same as that of a grass pitch in a perfect condition. But how many games are played on pitches in a perfect condition? Will your players miss seeing a ball bounce in a pond of muddy water?
In a way i'm glad the games have changed to a Friday night as I think we will benefit from the huge away support and also the home games
I dont like the way Dundalk have to switch our games away from Thursday night as 'Thursdays nights are Oriel' and I liked us being different.
But then again I dont live in Dundalk full-time any more and moving to Friday suit me down to the ground as I miss 2/3s of home games.
:DRumour Dundalk changed to Friday night home matches is that Connor likes to wine and dine on Thursdays!!......:D

I am dissappointed that we are being coerced into this decision. If a dublin club was doing this nothing would be said IMO.
I prefer to see this as an opportunity though. DFC has now to compete with the greyhound/ horse stadium but if the team is winning then we shouldn't have a problem with attendences.

Not really, there is 3 turn offs from the Motorway to get to Dundalk (South, Town Centre and North) and the race course being at the North of the town people would/should be taking the North turn off but in saying that I would say most people would take the South turn off anyway and continue on the inner relief road. Even then they would only meet up on the junction beside Xerox so I cant see traffic being much of a problem.
Thursday nights and Friday nights are both weeknights, so there's no advantage gained/lost.
Dundalk haven't changed from Thursday nights, they'll still be playing them then, except when they have no choice but to play on Fridays, i.e. UEFA/Setanta Cup weeks only.

There are no trains or buses back to Dublin after games. There are 24 hour buses between Dublin and Belfast but I think they are Ulsterbus ones that stop in Newry but not Dundalk.
Ulsterbus' buses stop in the jjb car park...dont know why but they do!
