CLASS!!! SO ye finally got some sponsorship now too? My nephews Jersey was blank but I got it at the first game of the year for him. I'm pretty sure 'the squealing pig' is at least partially responsible for his conception so it's better this way. :(
The pig have been our sponsor for last 2 seasons but we dont put it on kids jersey unless the parents ask for it. My eldest son has it on his.
So any suggestions for the name of the mascot? Was running a competition but didnt get any good enough names in!
I'm on it! :D
Headtheball?
Alan (Ball)?
Bobby Ball? (in homage partly to Bobby Browne, partly to the unfunny half of a ropey comedy double act)
With a number 8 on his back he could be The Magic 8 Ball. (Magic Mons and that)
But, get him sponsored by the Jammie Dodger factory over the wall and he could be The Dodger Ball!
(you can have that one free of charge and all! :p )
I'm trying really hard but can't resist the idea that his backstory - that is, how he came to be a man with a football for a head - can only involve an incredibly badly botched operation. Perhaps to rectify skin damage caused by burning.
Why not simply Bally. And in every program you can have a 'Where's Bally?' section for the kids. God I'm good.
You could tell people its really David Lee and as he went for a header his noggin
went through the ball and stuck firmly there :D
Well the Mon Dogs are a classic name ... so how about "Mickey The Mon Ball" :p
Or have a new mascot Pikachu ... after all, he's a PokéMon :o
Well if you ever need a knee high boot door kicking accomplice look no further! :D
Ha ha. When my kids were small I used to play a game with them where I would kinda tickle and poke them and it used to be called Pokémum!
It wasnt that bad!!
The Monaghan Football Head made an appearence at the Ireland U23 game last night. He was in the company of Benny Sligo Rovers The Bull and Denis The Bohemian Mennace.
I dunno, I'm warming to the name, as in if someone's into GAA they are often
called a GAA head etc ... now this mascot does exactly what it says on the tin,
he's a "football head" from Monaghan ... who happens to have a footy for a
head too! Genuis.
Dunno if that was suppose to be the thinking behind it ;)
There was a kid the year behind me in school who was universally known as "Football Head". My mate was in NY a couple of years ago (years after we left school), came back and said "Guess who I met - Football Head!" (at a gaa game indeed!)
EDIT: he was known as Football Head due to his very large, very round head (yes, kids are cruel), not because he was mad about football
Why not just have a squealing pig in honour of your sponsors?
We did consider that Pauro but as it is a pub & restaurant it may not have been wholly appropriate for the kids. Also sponsers come and go..........but Football head is here to stay!
So our new Mascot has finally a name??? Pity it was a kids thing Magic, i thought Drumlin Dave would have got the medal!! :( :D
We did consider a cow but since Finn Harps have one we wanted something different. Also one Mad Cow at Monaghan United is enough!!
He hasnt gotten a name as such yet but is being called Football head for the sake of having something to call him.
Im leaning more towards "Paul the Ball".
If you need a partner for "Mr. Football head" or any other mascot and you give me a good transfer fee I'll let ye have Marty the Flancare Monkey :D Bids start at e1000.
Sorry Marty but we need cash :D THE LION RUNS THE SHOW ! :)
I just had a EUREKA moment: BallBoy! He's got a youthful face...why not?!:D
Ballbag head prehaps?
For a club more famous for its hot dogs than anything else why didnt ye go for this?

He is far from creepy! He is a lovely young lad.
ha ha. sorry bout that, yeah he is creepy!
Cant believe we have made up to 37 replies on a monaghan thread!!! astonishing...pity its only talking about someone in fancy dress and not the good away win last night!!!:ball:
Agree Aidz but very few people care about how we do on the pitch unless we beat their team.
Good to see an interest in the mascot though. I wasnt online over the weekend either or there may have been a bit more talk of the game.
Well done on that win. I think ye'll also pick up a few points against Longford judging by the display I saw up there last night!
